William “Bill” Engelke

William “Bill” Francis Engelke, 85, passed away on Monday May 8, 2023, at St. Elizabeth Hospice in Edgewood, KY.  Bill was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on May 25, 1937, to the late Edward and Betty Muller Engelke.

Bill was a kind, gentle, easygoing man.  He was in the United States Navy Reserves for several years and worked as a paint formulator before retiring.  Bill enjoyed golfing, watching TV, and was an avid fan of the Bengals and UC football teams.  He liked to gamble whether it was the slots or horseracing not only in Kentucky, but all across the country.  Bill was a member of the Winton Lodge, where he became a Master Mason.  He also had the great privilege of being escorted on The Honor Flight, with his daughter Karen for veterans in 2019. Bill loved his family fiercely and they were his greatest accomplishment, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Bill leaves behind many friends at St. Charles who will miss his presence beyond measure.  He was a great father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend to all who knew and loved him.

He is preceded in death by his parents and loving wife, Marylynn Hentz Engelke.

Those left here to carry on his legacy are his daughters, Kathy (Mark) Wagner, Karen (Steve) Schmidt; grandchildren, Sarah (Kevin) Sprayberry, Michael Wagner, Emily (Phil) Shepard, Molly (Tom) Fritz, Hannah (Ryan Burfield) Schmidt, Joey Schmidt; great grandchildren, Benjamin Fritz, Evelyn Fritz, Landon Sprayberry, Daphne Shepard; sisters, Dee (Dorsey) Worthington and Debbie (Helen Wolfe) Engelke.

A memorial service will be held to honor Bill’s life on Thursday, June 1, 2023, at 2:00 pm at St. Charles Community 600 Farrell Dr., Covington, KY 41011.
