Vera “Jean” Heskamp

Obituary
Condolences

Vera “Jean” Heskamp, age 94, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family. Jean was a life-long Catholic. She loved her church and her faith, and she died after receiving the Last Rites of the church. She went home to be with the Lord on October 27, 2025.

Jean was a cherished resident, at The Seasons of Alexandria Nursing Home, where she found not only a home but a true community in the Maple Neighborhood. Her family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the wonderful staff at The Seasons and the “Maple Family”—Jean loved everyone there like family, and their care and kindness meant the world to her and family.

Jean lived a beautiful and full life. She had a creative spirit and loved oil painting, square dancing, gardening, and spending time in the kitchen cooking delicious pies and baking cookies. Her famous bourbon and strawberry slushies were a highlight of every holiday gathering and brought joy to everyone around her table. Above all, Jean treasured her family and the many moments spent with her nine grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bernie Francis Heskamp Jr., her sister Ruthie Eggemeyer, and her parents Francis “Dudley” Eggemeyer and Mary (Herzog) Eggemeyer.

Jean is survived by her loving children: Diane Hardcorn (Ed), David Heskamp (Therese), Patti LeForce (Ken), and Joe Heskamp (Elain); her brother Jim Eggemeyer (Joan); her grandchildren: Trey Hardcorn (Angie), Scott Hardcorn (Carla), Eric Hardcorn (Mindi), Amanda Hardcorn, Brian Heskamp (Katie), Michael Heskamp (Natalie), Fr. Josh Heskamp, Ben Heskamp (Kelli Carter), and Candace (Tyler Young); her twenty-four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews who all loved her dearly.

Jean will be remembered for her warmth, smile, and big blue eyes, her love for family, and the countless ways she made every gathering feel special. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew her.
