Condolences
Timothy Jon Shields, 78, of Florence, KY (originally from Charleston, WV) went to be with the Lord on November 18, 2025 receiving His warm embrace.  Tim was born on June 6, 1947.  He was a devoted Christian, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, coach, teacher, and friend.  He was known for his kindness, his dry humor, and his unwavering generosity with his time.  Coach Shields spent more than 50 years at Conner Middle/High School, Villa Madonna, and Thomas More College.  He was a coach, teacher, and mentor to everyone he came across, touching countless lives with patience, compassion, and fairness.  Outside of work he loved West Virginia, the Atlanta Braves and Eddie Mathews, watching Westerns, painting, all our family pets over the years, and most of all his family.
Tim is survived by his son Timothy Jon Shields II, his daughter January Shields Dubose, his daughter-in-law Racheal Shields, his son-in-law Eddie Dubose IV,  his grandchildren Timothy Jon Shields III “Trey”, July Rose Dubose, Grey Riggs Dubose, Austin Shields, sister-in-law Sue Shields, older brother Donald Shields, and companion and best friend Kelly Kessler.

Funeral Was Great Tribute To Tim

I was a fraternity brother of Tim’s at Morris Harvey College and only saw him a few times in the last 50 plus years since we graduated. Although I was unable to attend his funeral yesterday I watched the live stream of his funeral and learned so much about his life after he moved to Kentucky. My thanks to Florence Methodist Church for live streaming the service. I was so impressed with the great tributes by his daughter, son, former basketball player, and pastor. Although I knew Tim as a quiet, very good and pleasant person, it was really heartwarming to hear he had such a tremendous impact on his children, his students, and players he taught and coached. This is something I will always remember about Tim Shields. May God Bless Tim and his family.

Coach Sheilds

Coach Sheilds was one of the finest coaches and person I have ever known. Sorry we lost such a good man. Prayers to him and his family. Glad I was able to small part of his life.

The Man with a gentle soul

Dear January, Beep , July and Gray,
We only met your Dad and Pa twice, but we will always remember a kind and gentle soul. John 14:27 says: “ Peace I leave with you; My peace I give to you, not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled , neither let it be afraid.” We send our deep heart felt condolences and prayers to you all.
Submitted with Love;
Uncle Ricky and Aunt Faith

My Teacher, Our Friend, Her Coach

My math teacher when I was a freshman at Conner Jr High, he was great at his job and I still use the things he taught me then now. Who would then know that one day he would be my daughter’s basketball coach 25 years later. He was an excellent coach and teacher at discipline. A friend years later that we liked talking to about the past and laugh. God bless you and your family Mr Shields.

To a great fraternity brother

He was my little brother in the fraternity. At times he felt like my real brother. We both coached and loved sports. We both loved baseball and would talk old school baseball. We would only see each other 2 or 3 times a year but when we did we never missed a beat. I am a better person for knowing him. He will be missed.
