Tributes
Steven “Steve” Lilley, age 46, of Independence, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at home on July 30, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on October 25, 1978, Steve lived a life full of love, laughter, and passion for the things—and people—he cherished most. A proud husband, father, veteran, and friend, he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Steve was an avid Star Wars fan and Lego enthusiast which led to his extensive collection of Star Wars Legos displayed throughout his home. He had a love of all sports but his passion was baseball. He was a long-time fan of the Cincinnati Reds and even planned his marriage proposal to be during a game they were attending. In July of this year, he was honored as the team’s “Hometown Hero,” a tribute he was proud of though unable to attend in person.
He cherished time with family and friends, especially family vacations and his regular “Guys Trips” to various golf courses. Steve was known for his intelligence, sharp and often inappropriate humor, with a strong dose of witty sarcasm. These are just a few of the qualities those who knew him will remember fondly.
Steve proudly served his country, spending four years in the U.S. Navy and eight years in the U.S. Air Force, including service in Afghanistan. His dedication to family and country were the cornerstones of his life. Steve traveled the world and accomplished many things but of all his accomplishments, he was most proud of being a dad to his three sons.
Steve is survived by his beloved wife, Tara Lilley (née Coomer); his sons, Christian (20), Aiden (18), and Rowan (12); his mother, Margo (Lee) McCuistion; his mother, Cathy Lilley; siblings, Rodd (Tracey) Lilley, Christa (Chris Hertzel) Plummer, Brent (Tiffany) Danner, Brian (Amanda) Danner, and; parents-in-law, William and Terri McDonald; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his father, Robert Lilley, and his niece, Avery Plummer.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Steve’s life on Wednesday, August 6th, 2025. Visitation will be held from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM, with a funeral service at 11:00 AM at Linnemann Funeral Homes in Erlanger, Kentucky. Military honors will be presented at the graveside immediately following the service at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Ft. Mitchell.
