My Friend Shane

Shane, I was thinking about you this morning and found this place to write a little. I was remembering in high school when we found each other and were inseparable for a couple years. I remember going over to your place after school and weekends, shooting baskets in your driveway. Your mom always reminding you how your room smells. Bouncer your little pug dog. We practiced pro wrestling moves in your room – your wrestling name was “The Asian Caucasian.” I remember over in my basement room we started our fist band, Zagnut. You played acoustic guitar and I was on the bongos – that’s what we had. We wrote classic punk tunes like “Grubbin’” “No Women Today” and “Constipation.” I wish I still had the cassette we recorded on my boom box. I still remember some of the lyrics…

And we skated all the time. We’d get the Big Ol’ to buy us beer and drinking it in the woods or behind somebody’s garage.

Then I went to college and we lost touch with each other. I remember sometime in our late 20’s at Pats in the Flats you were there. I think you had moved away already and we’re back in town for some reason. We sat at the bar for a couple hours and caught up, not talking to anybody else, just hanging out like before. It was so cool.

I love you Shane, and I miss you pretty often. I sure hope when my time comes that we’ll get to hang out some more.

Your friend,
Bob Shurell

I have only known Shane for less than 6 months while working with him at Quadax. He was a kind soul always willing to help others. He will be missed greatly! His customers loved him. His family is in our thoughts and prayers.

My Brother from another mother

Shane,
No one could prepare for the loss that was about to take us on a journey that would change our lives forever. The way you handled your diagnosis with such grace and acceptance has left me in awe and clearly shows the type of person you were. You will continue to be an inspiration to me and to everyone who knew you. Despite the loss of your physical presence your loved ones, friends and coworkers can rejoice in the fact that we have another angel looking over us, protecting us and correcting us.
To the Brennan Family – Kristi, Sean, Stephanie, Esperanza and Desiraee – May you be comforted by the outpouring of love that is surrounding you, may your memories of Shane give you just what you need to find peace, comfort and understanding during this extremely difficult time. All of you are in my daily thoughts and prayers.
Shane’s Sister from another Mister.

The brother I never had.

I first met Shane in the early 90’s at a show in the middle of nowhere. Somehow we struck up a convo and friendship. I ended up sharing an apartment with him in Cleveland on W.117th.St. Those times were some of the best in my life and we were all penniless. I ended up sharing two more spots over time in Cleveland and some of the best and worse of times were had. You always could depended on Shane though to help you the best he could. His family always treated me like one of their own. I hadn’t seen him in nearly 20 years until last winter when I was on business in Kentucky. It was like old times and he was in good spirits about life and were he was in it. We shared the old war stories of times past and were we wanted to be in the future. I missed a call from him a couple months ago and I’ll regret that one. He was a solid guy and a brother in arms until the end. I’ll miss you bro . My you rest in peace and be playing bass with Killer Kane and the rest up there. My condolences to his family and friends.

My love

I will honor your name until I take my last breath. The void left by your leaving will never, ever be replaced. I hope you would approve of all of the decisions I’ve made for you in life and after. Always know you have made me a much better, stronger, tougher person. And for that I will always love you for that, and many other things! You always told me that TripleCrown members are your family too. And trust me babe they showed how much love for you they have. You would be humbled by that. Because that is the type of sweet soul you are. I miss you like crazy. Until we meet again my sweet angel.
All of my love
Kristi Brennan (babe)
