She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 68 years, Robert Charles “Smitty”; sister-in-law, Judy Dickerson; brother-in-law, Thomas Keuper; her lifelong friend, Mary Lee Rash, where they met in high school; and dear friends: Shirley, Marsha, Rae Jo and Lita.

Along with her husband, Sara was a dedicated and devoted member of the Erlanger Lions Club. Sara and Smitty were inseparable. Smitty was an employee of American Airlines, and this made way for the two of them to spend many years touring the world. As members of the Erlanger Lions Club, they were able to continue their travels and attend several Lions International Conventions as well as visiting Lions activities throughout Kentucky. For many years, each summer they served as counselors for the Kentucky Lions Blind Youth Camp, Camp Crescendo. As a result of the many years of community service, they were both named Kentucky Colonels and on November 15, 2002, at their surprise 50th anniversary party, they received the key to the city of Erlanger, and it was declared Smitty and Sara Smith Day.
Sara and Smitty loved to have a good time with their many friends and family members. She had a contagious laugh and usually could manage to have everyone laugh along with her!
A celebration of life for both Sara and Smitty will be held on Saturday, September 12, 2026, from 5:00 PM-10:00 PM at the Erlanger Lions Club, 5996 Belair Dr., Florence, KY 41042.
