A Pilot’s Pilot

High Flight
BY JOHN GILLESPIE MAGEE JR.
Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth
And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings;
Sunward I’ve climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth
of sun-split clouds,—and done a hundred things
You have not dreamed of—wheeled and soared and swung
High in the sunlit silence. Hov’ring there,
I’ve chased the shouting wind along, and flung
My eager craft through footless halls of air ….

Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue
I’ve topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace
Where never lark nor ever eagle flew—
And, while with silent lifting mind I’ve trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

My deepest sympathies

Janet Adkins

I am so sorry to receive this news. I was a Flight Attendant with Comair and flew many times with Rick. He was a wonderful pilot and always considerate to me along with his crew. I consider him a friend and we greeted each other with a smile each time we met. Such an exceptional man. All who knew him will certainly miss him. Prayers for Nancy and his family. Fly high and Rest in God’s Hands Rick.

Knew Him for Many Years

We were hired at COMAIR together, upgraded to Captain at the same time, and worked at the FAA together. He’ll be missed.
