Richard Eugene Schramm

Obituary
Condolences

Richard Eugene Schramm, 71, of Union, passed away on February 7, 2025.A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Rick lived a life rich with adventure, knowledge, and love. He proudly served 24 years in the U.S. Navy, where he built a career in medical services, managing a multi-specialty clinic and collaborating with physicians for a radiation health program. His expertise made him a trusted source of guidance for friends and family with health concerns.

Rick had an insatiable curiosity and a love for learning. Whether it was reading about world events, nature, or animals, he was always seeking knowledge. He had a passion for travel, having visited all 50 states, 35 of them with his beloved wife, Judy, in their RV and had a 6 month getaway in Desitin, Florida. Traveling took him to some of his favorite places, like in Yellow Springs, Ohio or down to Red River Gorge where he loved to hike.

Music was another of Rick’s great joys. He loved blues and rock, always appreciating a good concert. And then there was Kane, the stray dog who unexpectedly jumped into his car one day. After searching for Kane’s owner, Rick and his family welcomed him in, and the two became inseparable, being a source of comfort for Rick, as well as a good friend!

Above all, Rick cherished time with his family. He loved sharing advice with his sons and making memories with his grandchildren. Hosting Christmas in 2024 for his whole family was a moment he treasured, calling it the best Christmas he had ever had.

Rick is survived by his wife: Judy Schramm, sons: Jaramie (Sara) Newbury, Devin Schramm, Gerry (Carley) Griffin, Rory Griffin, step-children: Nichole, Jared, Christy, Cara, grandchildren: Ariah, Jayden, Jaykob, Ronan, Nora, Teagan, Finn, Maive, Killian, and Kennedy step-grandchildren: Paige, Renee (Alek), Madilyn, Lilly, Olivia, Saige, Jayde, Chenelle, great-grandchildren: Kaizer, Amyah, step-great-grandchildren: Ryan, Shia, Lyla, Laney, brother: David (Carol) Schramm, sister: Kim Schramm and close family friend, Mike

Rest In Peace

Judy, Our hearts go out to you during your painful loss. May God be with you and Ricks family and comfort you as I know Rick would want for you all.

Sending love & sympathy

John 16:22 – So also you have sorrow now, but I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice, and no one will take your joy from you.

Remember Rick’s memories as they shine through your sorrow knowing that this world is not our home; we are just passing through.

My memories of Rick are impactful. I was the very shy cousin that saw in my older cousin confidence, worldly knowledge & someone not afraid to share his opinion. Because of our age gap we rarely spent time together but on those rare occasions or phone calls I always came away with something positive from Rick in a letter or conversation that left an imprint on my heart.

With heartfelt love & sympathy,
Suzanne
