Richard T. Whiting, 81, of Osprey, FL born in Montclair, N.J. on May 15, 1943, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2024, at his home in Ryland Heights, KY.

Richard (Dick) began working for his father, Carson Whiting, in the family textile business in 1968 when he was 26 years old. He started as a management trainee in the manufacturing plant and proceeded to work in nearly every aspect of manufacturing production, design, and sales. After spending 10-12 years in manufacturing, Dick then took the company into selling pillows and other quilted bed products. In 1980, he was named Vice President, and 4 years later,” Executive,” was added to that title. In 1986 he was named President and CEO of Whiting Manufacturing Company. After 18 years of expanding the business, the growth of foreign made products ultimately led to the company’s closure. Dick retired and went on to enjoy many years of travel with friends and family.

Dick married his college sweetheart, Donna McKinney, on June 28, 1964, and raised their two children Dee Ann and Duane. His beloved wife of 42 years passed away of Alzheimer’s in 2006.

Two years later Dick married long time friend, Judy Bateman. Dick and Judy were married almost 16 years. The two enjoyed traveling with family and friends. Among the many family beach trips, Dick and Judy traveled the world with several of their Ryland Heights friends, including trips to Africa, Russia, the Baltic States, and many cruises to the Caribbean.

Survivors include his wife Judy, two children Dee Ann Gilmore of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Duane (Tiffany) of Truckee, CA, two stepchildren Tracy (Wendell) of Chandler, IN, and Brent Bateman (Suzanne) of Festus, MO; six grandchildren Cassidy Gilmore, Benson Gilmore, Callie Whiting, Adam Cron (Kyla), Lauren Beavers (Austin), and Christopher Bedwell (Tiffany). He also leaves behind six great-grandchildren, Olivia Bedwell, Lincoln Bedwell, Waylon Bedwell, Sloane Bedwell, Rhett Beavers, and Jace Beavers.

Dick is preceded in death by his first wife, Donna; his mother and father, Kathryn and Carson Whiting; brother, Dave Whiting, and sister Clair Sharpless.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, at Linnemann Funeral Home (Erlanger location). Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 12th. A private burial service will be held at Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati, Ohio.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ryland Lakes Memorial Fund, 3 Maplewood Drive, Ryland Heights, KY 41015, or to the Warrick Humane Society, 5722 Vann Road Newburgh, IN 47630.

Dick Whiting Family

Dear Judy and the Whiting Family,
I was deeply saddened to hear about the sudden passing of Dick. Please accept my heartfelt condolences during this difficult time.
Dick was not just a client to me; he was a cherished friend and someone I looked up to for over three decades. His warmth, wisdom, and friendship were constants in my life, and I will forever treasure the moments we shared. I have been blessed working with Dick’s parents Carson and Kathryn, his deceased wife, Donna, his wife Judy and his children Dee Ann and Duane.
His dedication to his family and his kindness toward me were truly remarkable. As his CPA, I had the privilege of witnessing firsthand his integrity and commitment to what was important to him and his family. Beyond our professional relationship, I valued our conversations and friendship over the years. Dick support and kind words meant more to me than he could have imagined especially when I was going through my own health situation in the last couple of years.
I know that no words can ease the pain of losing someone like Dick, but please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. May you find comfort in the love and support of your family and friends during this challenging time.
With deepest sympathy,
Brian Malthouse
