Tributes
Pete Van Curen Sr., 90, of Ryland Heights, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2026, at Seasons of Alexandria, surrounded by his family’s love. Born on February 27, 1936, Pete lived a life dedicated to raising his family in Mt. Lookout, while spending the summers at Ryland.
Pete believed in hard work and doing things the right way. He started his career at GE Aerospace in an engineering role, where he met his beloved wife Kathy, who worked in the GE library. After earning his master’s degree from Xavier University, he enjoyed a distinguished career at Cincinnati Gas & Electric Company, where he worked for more than 30 years. His analytical mind, and commitment to excellence earned the respect of colleagues throughout his career.
Pete would say that his greatest accomplishment was his family. He was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and brother-in-law. His family was his life’s focus.
Pete was a faithful Roman Catholic and a longtime member of St. Patrick Church and Shrine in Taylor Mill, and Our Lord Christ the King Church in Cincinnati. His faith created an important foundation throughout his life. His values of humility, kindness, and service were reflected not only in his words but in the way he lived each day.
From childhood with his grandfather to age 90 with his family, Pete was a cherished figure of Ryland Lakes Country Club. He and his late wife, Kathy, became members in 1970 and actively participated with their children in all that Ryland had to offer. A champion golfer, former club president, and president of the local volunteer fire department, Pete devoted his life to his community.
Pete was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Kathy Van Curen; his parents, Burton Van Curen and Mary Louise Wiese; his grandson, Christopher Stevenson, and his son-in-law, Christopher Schwarz Sr.
He leaves behind a loving family who will forever honor his memory: his children, Beth Schwarz, Pete (Julie) Van Curen Jr., Julie Stevenson, Susie (Jeff) Giesting, and Jim (Sandy) Van Curen; 15 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and dear friends who were blessed to know him.
Pete’s legacy of faith, integrity, perseverance, and unconditional love for his family and friends will continue to guide those whose lives he touched.
A memorial visitation will be held on Friday, August 7, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Church and Shrine, Taylor Mill, KY. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m.
