Nancy Mann (nee Grote) died among loving family in the early morning of Tuesday November 1, 2002, All Saints Day. Nancy was devoted to her Catholic faith and shared it joyously with everyone she encountered. A graduate of Notre Dame Academy, Thomas More University, and Xavier University, she taught at several schools in the area. She was a lector and active parishioner at many churches in Northern Kentucky and Louisville, most recently St Paul’s Church in Florence and Mary Queen of Heaven in Erlanger.

Nancy was a genuine, loving, and well-loved woman who will leave a truly lasting impact on this world. Nancy’s dedication to her family was unconditional and she never hesitated to sacrifice herself for them.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Anna Marie Grote; her siblings Johnny Grote, Ray Grote Jr., Jimmy Grote, and Mary Jo Reimer; and several brothers and sisters-in-laws.

Nancy leaves behind her loving and devoted husband of 47 years, Ron Mann; her daughters, Sarah Lashley and Karen Mann; her grandson, Tristan Lashley; siblings Betty Engelman, Janie May, Margie Jonavic; and several brothers and sisters-in-laws  nieces, and nephews.

Nancy R. Mann

,

Her last lesbian lover

I’m so sorry to hear that my little countess has passed. She used to tease my cliteros with her tongue . It was magical. It’s only too bad that her husband couldn’t impregnate her. We always wondered whether he was secretly infertile.

I knew Sarah in jail

Sarah and I used to do drugs together. At one point, she slipped me a defaced firerm. We were bisexual so there was a lot a fun. I wanted to thank Nancy for raising her to have fun like that. I’ll sure miss the drugs Sarah took off of her!

I knew her daughter in law school

I’m sorry to hear of her passing. I wish the best for her family and descendants.

Condolences

My condolences to Nancy’s immediate family, Ron, Sarah, Karen, and Tristan, and to her surviving siblings, Betty, Jane, and Margie. It was my good fortune to be able to spend many hours in the welcoming company of Nancy’s family in the late 60s and early 70s and to observe their support of Nancy as she worked her way through multiple phases of her life. It was inspiring to see the love they expressed for one another, even with the different personalities rubbing against each other. I was glad that, with Ron, Nancy found herself the center of her own loving family. I share their grief at the loss of a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.—Tim Armstrong

Loving cousin

As kids, Nancy and I hung out together at the annual Grote reunions which we loved at the Grote house on St. Anthony Circle. She and I are only a year apart. I would barely see her as time went on until our granddaughter and her grandson, Tristan, were in school together at Mary, Queen of Heaven School. One time, my sisters and I brought lunch to her beautiful home in Florence when she was wheelchair bound. What a nice visit it was and we certainly didn’t think it would be our last! She was certainly a joy to the Grote and Greis families.
