MSG, Charles Mark Dolgas, USAR, Ret.
Charles “Mark“ Dolgas, of Union, KY, passed away at his home on December 5, 2018 at the age of 55 with his wife and mother by his side. Mark put up a warriors fight after a battle against a swift and aggressive form of brain cancer diagnosed just 6 months prior. Mark was a native of Erlanger, KY born on March 6, 1963 to Barbara and Joseph Dolgas. Mark was a graduate of Lloyd High School and attended the University of Kentucky, College of Agriculture studying the Animal Sciences, were he was a member of the University of Kentucky School of Agriculture Alpha Zeta Honor Society. Mark had a passion for animals and met his wife, Karen Abell a Daviess County KY native, who shares this passion while within the Animal Sciences program. Mark is a 30 year veteran of the United States Army. His Army career took him through many journeys of service. Mark served as an active duty paratrooper for 3 years in the 82nd Airborne Division, also as a period of time as a National Guardsman, and as an Army Reservist in the 100th Division as well as serving as a 19 Delta Calvary Scout where he served as a Drill Sgt and was deployed many times to train troops to defend our nation he so passionately and proudly served. Mark retired as a MSG in the 3rd BN 337th Regt, 157th IN BDE, 1st Army Fox Troop NCOIC. During his years as a Reservist Mark also worked as a loyal employee for many years for the University of Kentucky as well as for the University of Cincinnati where he worked as a laboratory technician in Neuroscience research. After retiring Mark assisted and worked within his wife’s dog training and care business were they both deeply loved to care for the 4 legged and 2 legged patrons. Mark is preceded in death by his father, Joseph “Joe” Dolgas, his beloved rescue dogs: Misha, Rocky, Sammy, Koomer, Simba, Belle, Bert, and Winnie. He is survived by Karen Abell, his wife of 22 years and two rescue dogs Randy and Carson. Mark is also survived by his Mother, Barbara “Bobbie” Dolgas of Erlanger, Ky and Brother Joseph “Tony” Dolgas of Florence KY. A visitation will be held on Sunday, December 9, 2018 from 2pm until 5pm at Linnemann Funeral Home in Erlanger, KY. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, December 10, 2018 at 10am at St. Timothy Catholic Church in Union, KY. A second visitation will be held on Monday evening December 10, 2018 at Cecil Funeral Home in Whitesville, KY from 6pm until 8pm. Graveside services will be held on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at 11am at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Cemetery. Online condolences can be made at www.linnemannfuneralhomes.com
