Condolences

November 3, 1976 – November 8, 2025

Melissa Anne Sears, of Germantown, Ohio, passed away on November 8th, 2025, at the age of 49. She was born in Covington, Kentucky, to Sherry Riley Evans (Lovett) and the late Dale P. Evans. Melissa was a graduate of Oakwood High School (Dayton, Ohio), class of 1995. She was a licensed social worker who received degrees with high honors in Social Work and Spanish from Wright State University (BA) and the University of Cincinnati (MSW). She worked in mental health counseling at Children’s Hospital in Dayton, Ohio, and Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. She was a believer who attended Southbrook Church in Miamisburg, Ohio, and enjoyed participating in the Women’s Bible Studies.

Melissa was a devoted mother, a loving daughter, and a compassionate mental health counselor. She was a lover of life who had artistic, academic, and musical talents. She enjoyed many things, including music, plays, marathons, and travel. She was an awesome travel planner and looked for fun and unusual things to do at the places she visited.

Melissa’s most powerful love was for her children. She enjoyed going to their activities and was thrilled with their accomplishments. Her greatest source of pride was seeing the development of their kindness, character, and love for each other. She’ll forever be a part of each of them.

Her four-legged children were always a source of fun and comfort. Sugar, the “Sandy” to 5-year-old Melissa’s “Annie,” helped ease the move to Ohio. Riley always brought smiles with his joyful spirit and volleyball-playing skills from the back of the couch. Jack exuded pure love with his sweetness and staring contest competitions. He was gently by Melissa’s side to welcome each child. Big boy Willie (her Shu Shu) had a special connection with her until the end. He was a great comfort and continues to share his loyal heart of love and fun with the whole family.

Melissa was preceded in death by her father, Dale P. Evans, and her grandparents: George Riley, Bertine Riley Bradley, William Bradley, Vonnell Evans, and Ed Evans. She is survived by her children, Charlotte, Emersen, and Jay; their father, Trevin Sears; her mother, Sherry; and stepfather, Ron. She leaves very close friends and family who were an important comfort to her in her last months.

The family will hold a private celebration of life in her honor at a future date. To honor her wishes, an out-of-town burial at her favorite beach location will take place in the spring or summer. As thanks for Melissa’s life, please consider doing a special act of kindness to make the world a happier place.
