Mary Sue Meyrose
Mary Susan Meyrose (Mama, or Marmaw) of Crestview Hills, Kentucky was born on January 5, 1956 to Charlie (the Whistler) and Margie Runda of Fort Mitchell, Kentucky. Her sister, Carol Carlson (Redmond, Oregon) and John Runda (Helena, Montana) were 10 and 8 years older than her, but adored their little sister growing up—as so many have since the day she was born. It was said that her sweet, caring spirit could be witnessed at an early age right next to that smile she always had on her face.
Mary was educated by the Nuns at Notre Dame Academy where she made some of the friendships that remained to the day she died. Upon graduation, Mary began working at Sutton Optical where she stayed for 20 years. Her journey then led her to become a CNA where she cared for people with the most care and humility. It truly was her calling.
Mary met her husband Jerry Meyrose through their parents who were both a part of a crew known as the Anniversary Club. While her father Charlie was not quite sure about letting Mary date Jerry, Charlie knew his parents after all, and knew where he lived should it go awry. After Jerry asked Mary to prom, she said yes, trusted the process, and the rest of their love story was solidified when they got married on May 22, 1976. The joy and love they curated, she brought to every space she was in.
Mary and Jerry had 2 children, Eric and Renee, whom she loved dearly. Their lives with children started in December of 1979 when Eric was born and then it was completed with their daughter Renee in November of 1981. Mary was always there for her children, much like her grandchildren. She was their biggest cheerleader and was beyond proud of the lives they had built. They have all created countless memories together–from visiting Renee, Marquis, and Renee’s friends over the years in North Carolina, to popping in at Eric and Lacey’s house to see Logan, Oliver, and Xavier. Family was Mary’s happy place: holidays, vacations, camping and the most elaborate Christmas’- all thanks to her love for her family. She was truly a woman centered around the people and things that mattered the most. Blessed with the funniest children, she always had a laugh or smile across her face. And no one will forget her shake laugh that made the world stand still. Most importantly, she thanked God for her babies and grandchildren.
After multiple complex diagnoses over the years, she always had to fight so courageously to live her life alongside all of the people she loved the most. She was so brave and determined with a warrior’s heart (no pun intended). She battled without complaining, love in her step, laughter in her spirit, and her grandsons in her heart. The grandbabies gave her meaning and purpose, and her legacy will live on in the love and light they received every minute they shared with her on this earth.
Mary will never know the impact her spirit has had on her family, and the impact her caring spirit, and her laugh, has had on countless people near and far. She was a shining example of what we need in the world today: Kindness, love, strength, understanding, and compassion. She will be truly missed by all who were lucky enough to know her and spend any amount of time with her. Everyone walked away from her just a little bit better.
And to you, Mary, Mama, Marmaw: Thank you for all of the love and grace and understanding you gave to make people feel whole and to feel seen. You have been the greatest answered prayers to all those in your world. God has a plan far greater than we can ever imagine. You are in our spirit, and we will always honor you and how you love and show up for people. You are quite simply the best. Fly high sweet lady and rest easy.
Mary died at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio on November 5, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband, children and daughter in law, 4 grandboys, her sister & brother, and countless other family and friends.
