Mary Margaret Whitacre

Mary Margaret Whitacre earned her angel wings on 04/11/25 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Ft. Thomas, KY. Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Mary was 89 years old and spent most of her life in service of others in and around Newport, KY.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jerry Whitacre, son Danny Whitacre and granddaughter Andrea Joy. Survivors include her son Jerry Whitacre II, son Marty Whitacre, son Kenny Whitacre and daughter Angela Whitacre.  Also surviving are grandchildren Brian, Joey, Beth, Tyler, Casey, Ally, Ricky, Hannah, Ruben, Shea, Avery, Harper, Layla, Sydney and Ariana. Mary was very active in her church and community. Volunteering as a Cub Scout ‘Den Mother’ and later leading Arnold Elementary School’s parent-teacher association as President, participating in Newport’s community council and Boys and Girls Club, among others, Mary also was a devout Catholic who enthusiastically participated in most church activities.

Parleying her work in the Arnold school cafeteria for many years, Mary eventually was employed full-time at Canteen Corporation at the IRS building in Covington and retired at age 65 to enjoy the rest of her years watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up. She was fond of playing cards and lived an active life, especially whenever there were children around. Her happiest moments were often spent outdoors, tending to her garden or helping others with their gardens.

By far, Mary’s family – along with her extended family of nephews, nieces and their children — was arguably her highest priority in life.

Visitation will be held Tuesday April 15, 2025 from 11am to 1pm with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at Holy Spirit Parish in Newport, KY.
