Mary Lou Pleasants (nee Holmes), 90, formerly of Ludlow, KY, passed away peacefully on February 22, 2025, at Emerald Trace.
Born on November 1, 1934, in Falmouth, KY, Mary Lou was the beloved daughter of the late Clyde and Hilda Holmes. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, James “Jim” Pleasants, with whom she shared a wonderful life after their marriage in 1955.
A devoted homemaker, Mary Lou dedicated her life to caring for her family, always ensuring a warm and welcoming home. She was the cherished mother of Kent (Cathy) Pleasants and Laure Roberts, and a proud grandmother to Ryan Pleasants, Jake Roberts, Carmen Pleasants, Cole Pleasants, and Lauren Ashley German. Her legacy continues through her adored great-grandchildren: Cora, Cohen, Hadley, and Hannah.
Mary Lou had a zest for life, known for her fun-loving spirit, sharp wit, and irreverent sense of humor. She enjoyed entertaining, cooking, and sharing meals with friends and family. An enthusiastic bridge player, golfer, and crafter, she also had a deep love for UK basketball and her beloved Boston Terriers. She cherished her extended family and had a special lifelong friendship with Bill and Nancy Loyal.
Deeply involved in her children’s and grandchildren’s activities, Mary Lou was always there—whether for a swim meet, school activities, or simply to cheer them on in life. She and Jim were longtime members of Summit Hills Country Club, where they created lasting memories golfing and playing bridge with friends.
A special thank you to the caregivers at Emerald Trace for their tremendous and loving care during the final years of Mary Lou’s life.
