Manuel Parece

Manuel Victor “Vic” Parece Jr., 79, joined our heavenly Father, December 26th, 2013 , as the result of complications related to his battle with cancer. Born into a large Portuguese-Irish family in Somerville, Massachusetts during the height of the depression, Manuel was instilled with the enduring values of God, family, and country handed down from immigrant grandfathers. He watched his brothers go off to fight in WWII, and when his time came he served our country faithfully in the U.S. Navy. As his father before him, he was patriarch of a large family that he supported by careers in the private and public sectors. Never one to be idle, although earning two pensions, Manuel worked and earned a wage until the day he died. The epitome of “old school” values, he lived his life by example, demonstrating to many children and grandchildren a strong work ethic, the value of a dollar, putting family before self, and planning for the future. Sprinkled throughout the story of his life are small and large sacrifices made to ensure healthy and happy lives of his family. Most important, he valued education in all its forms, driving his children toward higher education, but also championing continuous learning. Once, when asked how he learned to do a plumbing repair on his house, he said, “I got a book from the library and read it.” Manuel was preceded in death by his wife, Lois Ann Pritchard Parece, and his son Manuel Victor Parece III. He is survived by brothers, Warren and Donald Parece, both of Massachusetts, and sisters, Elizabeth (Betty) Hardy of Massachusetts and Evelyn Gibason of California. He also leaves behind his 8 children, 19 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren that will miss him dearly for the rest of their lives. Visitation will be on Tuesday December 31st, 2013 from 9AM-11AM at Linnemann Funeral Homes in Erlanger. A service will follow the visitation at 11AM at the funeral home.
