Tributes
John Edward Lambert, 85, of Union, KY, went home to his Lord on November 25, 2024, in his home.
He was born December 3, 1938, in Lexington, Kentucky, the fourth and last child of Charles and
Shirlee (Orth) Lambert.
The family relocated to Louisville in John’s early childhood. John graduated from Atherton High
School in 1956 and attended the University of Kentucky. Realizing he was gifted at working with his
hands, John changed his academic focus and graduated from Northrup Institute of Technology,
Englewood, CA. After earning an Airframe and Powerplant FAA certification in 1961, he was
employed by Delta Airlines working as an aircraft mechanic for 33 years at the Greater
Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport. In addition to his work on airplanes, John had a
special interest in and knowledge of Volkswagens. Over a period of 20 years he provided service for
many VW owners in the community.
John was a faithful and active member of Erlanger Methodist Church since moving to Northern
Kentucky in 1961. He served on several committees and boards, particularly the Administrative
Board and Trustees Committee. John was always available to help whenever his skills were needed.
John is survived by his loving wife of 66 years Sue (Dolen) Lambert and three children:
Charles Edward Lambert, John Douglas (Kirsten) Lambert and Amy (Troy) Roberts. In addition,
“Papa” will surely be missed by his five grandchildren: Jonathan (Evelyn) Roberts, Rachel Lambert,
Jenna (Drew) Burlon, Ryan (Kristin) Lambert and Jared (Rio) Roberts together with his eight great
grandchildren: Jack Burlon, Genevieve Roberts, Luca Roberts, Molly Burlon, Carter Lambert, Sofia
Roberts, Braden Lambert and Giovanna Roberts, plus a host of extended family and friends. Along
with both parents, Charles and Shirlee Lambert, preceding him in death were three sisters: Sallie
Jackson, Charlotte Mosley, and Glenna Spratt.
John’s employment with Delta as well as his and his wife’s penchant for exploring God’s creation,
John, Sue and the family were able to take advantage of many travel opportunities. In addition, they
welcomed many families and friends to their Florida condo purchased after retiring that came to be
known as “PARADISE.”
