Jewell V. Smith

Jewell Vice Smith was born 9/13/1926 as the ninth of ten children to Lee Roy & Flora Vice, who all predeceased her. She went to heaven on June 22, 2024.

Jewell was married to James Gayle Smith for over 71 years until his death in February, 2020. They had five sons. Jerry, who died in August, 2004, Ronnie (Kathy), Carl (Lynn), Wayne (Becky), and Don (Teresa). She also had 9 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

She was a life-long member of Burlington Baptist Church, where she taught in the nursery and 5^th grade Sunday School class for many years as well as serving on various committees and councils. She loved to sing and was a member of the sanctuary choir for over 70 years.

Jewell’s other passion besides her family and her church was as a seamstress, or dressmaker. She made wedding dresses, cheerleading outfits, and baseball uniforms as well as making or altering clothes for many people.

Jewell’s celebration of life will be on Saturday, July 13 at Burlington Baptist Church. Visitation is from 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM followed by the funeral service. Burial will be in Burlington Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Burlington Baptist Church Memorial Fund.
