Jerry Abney

Jerry E. Abney, 79, of Erlanger, KY, passed away on Sunday, March 8, 2015, at St. Elizabeth Hospital Edgewood. He played football for Newport High School and Eastern Kentucky University, and obtained his Masters degree from Xavier University. Jerry, for a period of time, owned and operated Creative Imprints Screen Printing in Erlanger, KY. In November of 1989 he was honored by the City of Erlanger for the Friendship City Logo design. He also worked as a school teacher at various schools in Northern Kentucky. During his years of teaching, Jerry was on the cutting edge of graphic arts. He started the graphic arts department at Newport High School. He also coached football and wrestling at Newport, Lloyd, Simon Kenton, and Campbell County. While at Simon Kenton and Campbell County he started their wrestling program. Jerry was a member of Erlanger United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir, was a member of Erlanger United Methodist Men, and taught Sunday School. He was also a member of Kentucky Education Association and KHSAA. Jerry is survived by his wife of 56 years Ann Abney of Erlanger, KY, daughter Lynn Abney of Park Hills, KY, son Dave Abney of Erlanger, KY, son Scott Abney (Teresa) of Elsmere, KY, granddaughters Tara Marcum (Allen) and Stephanie Abney, and step great grandchildren Cheyenne and Andrew Marcum. A visitation will be held on Thursday March 12, 2015 4pm until 8pm at Linnemann Funeral Home in Erlanger, KY. A second visitation will take place on Friday March 13, 2015 10am until 11am at Erlanger United Methodist Church. The funeral service will immediately follow that visitation and begin at 11am at the church. Interment will be at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, in Erlanger.
