Jeannine Gay VanDerVeer, Covington, Kentucky, born February 13, 1941 passed away May 13, 2014. Great-granddaughter of General Ferdinand VanDerVeer, of the Union Army – called the “Real Rock of Chickamauga.” Granddaughter of Boynton VanDerVeer, Michigan Law, Chicago advertising executive; daughter of Gaylord VanDerVeer, owner of VanDerVeer Ford Newport, Kentucky, horse trainer and breeder.

Jeannine VanDerVeer was the Executive Secretary of the New Orleans Playboy Club, Bunny Mother of the Cincinnati Playboy Club, co-founder of the Licking Riverside Neighborhood Association, having restored numerous historic homes in that area. She was also a D.C. General Hospital trauma nurse, founder of the Red Hawk Tobacco Company and glamour photographer. She was wife and “Shield Maiden” to Stephen Terry McMurtry. Jeannine was a force in her family and community.

She is survived by two sons, Todd VanDerVeer McMurtry, attorney, Centre College and Chase Law, and Quinn VanDerVeer McMurtry, communications producer, The American University and NKU; seven grandchildren, Ana Cristina McMurtry Moore, Centre College and University of Kentucky Law, Stephen Todd McMurtry, National Merit Scholar at DePauw University, William Francisco McMurtry, National Merit Scholar and Johnson Scholar at Washington and Lee University. Celeste Florence McMurtry, Camille Jeannine McMurtry, Garrett Tecumseh McMurtry and Kiernan Tecumseh McMurtry all students of Saint Agnes School, fencers, swimmers, dancers, ballplayers and seekers of knowledge and adventure; two brothers and a sister, Gregory L. VanDerVeer of Lauderdale by the Sea, Florida, developer and owner of Bateman & Co., F. Scott Carto of Covington, Kentucky, bookseller and antiquarian and Vanessa VanDerVeer of Pointe Orange, Florida, teacher and tutor; and two brave and beautiful daughters–in-law, Maria C. Garriga, mother of Ana, Stephen and William, and Renee L. Marquette, mother of Celeste, Camille, Kiernan and Garrett.

Private service to be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Newport, Kentucky.
