Geraldine Mellott

Florice Geraldine “Gerry” Mellott died at Cold Spring Transitional Care Cold Spring, KY on March 28, 2015 at the age of 91. She was born in Travelers Rest, Kentucky. Her parents were Chester Wayne Scott and Lennie Rae Scott. She was a graduate of Union College in Barbourville, KY with a degree in elementary education. She taught school in a two room schoolhouse in Needmore, KY. She also taught in Barbourville, KY city schools, Kenton Hills Elementary in Covington, KY, Hollywood, FL city schools and taught for 28 years in the Erlanger Elsmere school system. She was a member of the Erlanger United Methodist Church where she held numerous leadership roles. She held leadership roles of local Kentucky Education Association (KEA): Erlanger Elsmere Teachers President, Kenton County Retired Teachers President and Northern Kentucky Retired Teachers President. She also served on the Erlanger Elsmere School Board from 1981 to 1985. She was one of the first volunteers when Erlanger Elsmere United Ministries opened in 1982. Later, she volunteered at United Christian Volunteers. She is survived by her husband of 69 years Ben Mellott of Cold Spring, KY, daughter Susan Stodghill (Herb) of Florence, KY, grandson Dustan Stodghill (Angela) of Brentwood, TN, great granddaughter Ainsley Stodghill of Brentwood, TN, sister in law Mary Pearson (Robert) of La Puenta, CA, niece Ruth Ann Whitehouse (Mike) of Louisville, KY, and cousin Patsy Holdsworth (Gary) of Versailles, IN. You may honor Gerry through a memorial donation to United Christian Volunteers, Erlanger Elsmere United Ministries, Erlanger United Methodist Church, The United Methodist Church Children’s Home in Versailles, KY or Hospice of the Bluegrass. A very special thanks for the tender loving care given at Emeritus Assisted Living given by Amy, Regina, Cheryl, Jan, Katie, Lavina, Kesha, and Rebecca. A visitation will be held on Thursday April 2, 2015 11am to 1pm at Erlanger United Methodist Church. The funeral service will immediately follow the visitation and begin at 1pm at the church.
