Evalene Rogers

Evalene Life Story
Obituary
Condolences

Evalene Rogers (nee Mayes), 88, of Union, KY entered into eternal rest on December 27, 2024. Evalene was born in Mackville, KY to Jason and Beulah Mayes.

Evalene was a natural born caregiver, which led to her number one passion in life; her career as a nurse. She initially pursued this dream in 1962 when she bravely made the decision to move alone from Louisville to Northern Kentucky to work as an office assistant with a local doctor. She worked her way up the ranks at the office and began nursing school at Northern Kentucky University in 1977, graduating in 1979. It was at that job that she would meet a patient, who would then become her future husband. Evalene and her husband remained in Northern Kentucky their entire marriage, only venturing to their FL home during the winter months from 2001-2013. Evalene remained in close contact with many of her nursing colleagues, some dating all the way back to her nursing school days. Every month, several retired nurses would meet for lunch at local restaurants to catch up on life and reminisce their old nursing days. Over the past 20 years, she rarely missed this standing invitation and looked forward to it every month.

In her spare time, Evalene loved playing bingo and making floral arrangements and wreaths for the different holidays. She loved watching the Kentucky Wildcats basketball team and followed them out of the country on three different occasions. She would complete an NCAA tournament bracket each March and would watch every game during the tournament. Many people were amazed at her knowledge surrounding the different teams and their coaches. This past March, she placed in the top 3 winners in the bracket challenge pool within her community.

She loved her family dearly and often bragged about their successes in life, always referring to her children by both their first and middle names. Evalene will be most remembered for her infectious smile, perfectly styled hair, painted nails, red lipstick, lingering perfume, and her snazzy, vibrant outfits. She always looked her best no matter the occasion.

Evalene was preceded in death by her brother, William “Billy” Mayes, her twin sister, Louella Wright, and her husband of 50 years, Vaughn Rogers. She is survived by her two children, Timothy Rogers of Louisville, KY, Mitzi Rogers of Odessa, FL, three granddaughters, Sydney Smith (Austin) of Louisville, KY, Kamryn Rogers of Lexington, KY, and Karsen Rogers of Odessa, FL and a brother, Randy (Debbie) Mayes, of Perryville, KY. She is also survived by several special nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be on Friday, January 3, 2025 from 11:00AM-1:00PM at Belleview Baptist Church in Burlington, KY, followed by a funeral service at 1:00PM at the Church. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Belleview Cemetery.

lovely lady

Evalene was my dad’s nurse thirty years ago when he was hospitalized at St. Elizabeth. Yes, thirty years, and I remember her so well. She was a lovely lady, a kind and compassionate caregiver, and a great support to my family. My deepest sympathy to all who knew and loved her.
