Eric Michael Morwessel

Obituary
Condolences

Eric Michael Morwessel, 56 years old, of Ft Wright, Kentucky passed away on Monday, April 6, 2026 after a fierce battle with a rare type of pancreatic cancer. He was born in Fort Thomas, Kentucky on August 18, 1969 to Don and Rosemarie Morwessel (nee Schwegmann).

Eric was an educator for over 30 years. He spent a decade in the classroom and then went into school administration. Although he spent time in all three Northern Kentucky counties – Boone, Kenton, and Campbell – he spent the last nine years of his Kentucky public education career as the Principal at Walton-Verona Middle School. His three children attended the middle school and high school during his tenure there which brought him great joy. In 2024, upon his retirement from Kentucky public education, he was hired as Principal of St Michael School (K-8) in Sharonville, Ohio. He was a gifted educator, coach, mentor, and soccer official/referee. Eric was a passionate Cincinnati Bengals fan. His most recent adventure was towing his new camper trailer to various destinations to enjoy time away and see new places with his family. His superpower was reaching kids and making students and staff feel seen and heard. He was very unassuming and gave everyone the benefit of the doubt. He never wanted to work at a higher administrative level outside of the school building. He wanted to be where the kids were. He was recently named a Kentucky Colonel for all of his work in education and youth athletics.

His most important and cherished role was husband and father. Nothing brought him more joy than spending time with family and friends, but especially watching his three children, Madi, Mason, and Jack, grow and flourish into the amazing human beings they are today. He has enjoyed the love of many family pets – mostly dogs – over the years. He is leaving his family the wonderful gift of an enormous community of people whose lives he touched. This community will allow his spirit to live on and to support his family in countless ways. His positive outlook on life, great sense of humor and big heart will be greatly missed.

Eric is preceded in death by his parents, Don and Rosemarie Morwessel. Eric is survived by his wife of 27 years, Erin Michelle Morwessel. He is also survived by his three children Madison Lee Morwessel (Ronnie Woodall), Mason Chaney Morwessel, and Jackson Eric Morwessel. Eric also leaves behind his sisters, Barb Morwessel (Jim Gaube) of Cincinnati, Ohio and Dr Rosemarie Morwessel of Mobile, Alabama. He also leaves behind his brother Marc Morwessel of Independence, Kentucky. Eric leaves behind several nieces, nephews, in-laws, as well as countless friends and students. Last, but definitely not least, Eric is survived by his four doggies Cooper, Theo, Coco and Mr Custard. Many other family dogs that have passed met him as he entered heaven.

A Good Man

I am so sorry to hear of Eric’s passing. I worked with him at Simon Kenton and found him to be a kind, compassionate, and competent administrator. He truly cared about the students and the staff. He always had a smile and a kind word and looked for the best in people.

What a guy!!

I met Eric when hew as coaching my daughters at BCHS. I began playing soccer with him in various leagues and venues and always enjoyed his spirit and talent. I think his obituary clearly shows who he was and the impact he had. I saw the kids he had affected as they came up to him after they were out of school and hugged and loved on him. That is one of the greatest gifts any man can have, making someone’s life better.
