Emily Jean Gibson
Emily Jean Gibson of Florence, Kentucky passed away peacefully on July 16, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was 95 years old.
Born on October 1, 1928, Emily lived a life marked by faith, love, and cherished traditions. After graduating from Holmes High School, she met her late husband, Howard James Gibson. They were married on May 21, 1949 and spent 38 beautiful years together.
She is preceded in death by her sister, Laverne Thorton, and grandson Robert Smith.
She leaves behind her daughters; Barbara (Thomas) Smith, Bettie Gibson, Martha (Frank) Perkins, and Nancy (Robert) Hart, her grandchildren; Amanda Christine Smith, Bryan Perkins, Bradley Perkins, Suzanne Julius, Ross Hart, and Brock Hart, and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Emily held many titles over the years. She was a health ambassador for Biggs Early Childhood center in Covington, she drove for the cancer society, and she served in various positions at her church. She was a devout member of Hebron Baptist Church, where her kindness touched the lives of many in her community.
Emily was also a dedicated University of Kentucky fan and enjoyed watching the games with her family.
Beyond her church and sports allegiances, Emily found joy in simple pleasures. She had a talent for playing cards, often engaging in friendly games with friends and family. Her skillful hands also lovingly crafted countless crocheted afghans, each a testament to her skill and devotion. Many babies were welcomed into the world wrapped in the comfort of her handmade creations.
Above all, Emily cherished her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, whose love and wisdom enriched the lives of all who knew her. Her home was a gathering place filled with laughter and love.
A visitation for Emily will be held on Monday, July 22, 2024 at Linnemann Funeral Home in Erlanger, Kentucky (30 Commonwealth Avenue) at 11:00AM, until the time of service at 12:45PM. Burial will immediately follow the service at Floral Hills Memorial Park (5336 Old Taylor Mill Rd).
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shriners Children’s Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky.
