Ella Baker Cahill, age 85, passed away on December 19 in Lexington after a battle with cancer. She moved to Lexington in 2007 to be with her daughter and family after spending most of her life in Northern Kentucky. She graduated from Florence High School in 1950 and married her beloved husband Jerry in 1953. Ella devoted herself to the care and comfort of her disabled son Steve for 20 years. Following Steve’s death in 1975, she began a career as an administrator in the business office at Booth/St. Luke Hospital, which she loved. She and Jerry deeply cherished time spent with family and friends at Perry Park. She will always be remembered for her generous spirit, positive energy, and compassionate heart. Ella’s favorite part of life was loving her family and friends, including her neighbors at Liberty Ridge. She is survived by her daughter, Teresa Cahill Lawrence; brother, Bob Baker; grandchildren, Brad (Megan), Shelby, and Evan; great-grandson, Henry; and extended family members. She will be missed greatly. Visitation will be held at 1:00 on December 28 at St. Paul’s in Florence. The funeral service will be held at 2:00. Donations can be made to Bluegrass Care Navigators 2312 Alexandria Dr. Lexington 40504.

Selfless

I am a better person because I knew Mrs. Cahill. She exemplified kindness, caring, and acceptance. She gave of herself to the service of others, especially her family. I will always remember her welcoming smile. Even when she didn’t feel her best and was fighting cancer she upbeat and happy to see you. She can rest now. I will miss her.
Susan

How lucky was I, To have you for my aunt? I got to love and enjoy you for fifty years…frankly, it wasn’t enough time. Your laugh, your stories, your smile, and your love. Ill dearly miss you.

Sweet Ella Mae

Ella was always so full of fun. I first met her when I began working at Booth Hospital and was instantly charmed by her wit and good humor. She was such a kind and generous person. Her laugh will always be with me. My deepest sympathies to her family.
