Edwina Miller Setzer

Edwina M. Setzer, age 79 and William C. Setzer, PhD, age 81.
Edwina died on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 in Dunedin, FL surrounded by family after a long battle with cancer. She was a loving wife of 59 years to William “Bill” Setzer, 81, who passed away peacefully on September 21, 2018 in Dunedin, FL.

Born to the late Hazel (Craigmyle) and Godfrey Edwin Miller in Cincinnati, Ohio, and raised in Covington, KY, Edwina graduated from the University of Kentucky, where she was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority. It was at UK where she made lifelong friends, and met Bill, the love of her life. Edwina will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her excellent cooking, her volunteer work, her love of UK basketball, her kindness and her ability to make friends wherever they lived.

Bill was born in Kansas City, MO, to the late Ruth (Fite) and Wendell Setzer, and raised in Lexington, KY. Bill received his   bachelor’s degree and a PhD in Metallurgical Engineering with PhD minors in Mathematics and Physics from the University of Kentucky. Bill’s career took him to many companies and locations, including New Haven, St. Louis, Louisville, Pittsburgh, and Evansville. He and Edwina retired to her hometown of Covington, where they still have friends and family. Bill’s scientific and inquisitive mind was always “on.” He loved fishing, gardening, poker, bridge, and playing chess with his grandchildren. He will be remembered for both his intelligence and kindness.

Edwina and Bill are survived by their 3 loving children: Craig, Julie (John) Shine, and Tom (Debbie), 5 wonderful grandchildren: Jack, Sydney, Tyler, Ryan and Connor; Edwina’s sister Diane Miller Victor (Wayne), Bill’s brother Wendell and a number of other relatives and friends. Bill is predeceased by his younger sister Carolyn Sparks.

A memorial Service will be held on Sunday, December 2, 2018 at 2pm at Ryland Lakes Country Club, 2 Maplewood Drive Covington, KY 41015. Burial of Cremains will be Monday December 3, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Independence Cemetery.
