Donald Mathis

Donald Mathis,76 of Union, passed away March 8, 2025 surrounded by his family.  As a proud veteran, Don honorably served in the United States Army. His dedication to service continued well beyond the military, as he spent many years working with the Boy Scouts, mentoring young minds and fostering a love for the outdoors. His passion for community extended to 26 years with Boone County Knothole Baseball, where he and his family maintained the fields and concessions. Don was a man who found true joy in bringing laughter and happiness to others. Whether it was through a well-timed joke, a captivating story, or a simple act of kindness, he had a way of making everyone feel special. For a decade, he spread Christmas cheer as Santa Claus throughout Boone County, a role he took to heart as a proud member of the Real Bearded Santas.

Don was preceded in death by his parents: Norbert and Rosemary Mathis and sister: Debbie Galinger. He is survived by his wife of 56 years: Donna Mathis, children: Lee Mathis, Jason Mathis and Dawn Mathis, grandchildren: Cameron, Kiersten, Brandon, Kyleigh, and Kason, great-granddaughter: Liliana, siblings: Denny Mathis, Ben Mathis, Barb Hellmann, Marilyn Smith, Norb Mathis, Rosemary Mathis, June Hurley and Glenn Mathis and numerous brothers, sisters-in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations toward funeral expenses would be greatly appreciated and can be made to Linnemann Funeral Homes or call 859-727-1250.
