David Schansberg
SCHANSBERG, DAVID ARTHUR, 76, of Erlanger, KY moved from St. Elizabeth’s Healthcare Hospice (Edgewood, KY) into the next phase of his eternal life in Christ Jesus on October 30, 2015. David was born on August 24, 1939 in New Albany, IN to Alden Jerome and Jasmine Marie Schansberg. He attended New Albany High School for two years and graduated from Eastern High School in Louisville in 1957. After college, he attended vocational school in Paintsville and then the University of Louisville. He joined the Marines and also served in the Marine Reserves. He graduated from Northern Kentucky University in 2003. David’s career started as the editor and publisher of the Jeffersonian and The (St. Matthews) Voice in Louisville, KY. From there, he was publisher of newspapers in Monroeville, PA; Malone, NY; Fairfax, VA; Claremont, NH; Amherst, MA, and Florence, KY. In the second half of his career, he sold display advertising in Northern Kentucky—and for the last 17 years, operated a Minuteman Press franchise in Crestview Hills, KY. David was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and a disciple of Jesus. We will remember and miss him for his love of family, his friendliness toward strangers, his sense of humor, his impressive work ethic, and his solid advice. He was a loving and faithful husband, a great Dad, and an awesome “Papaw”. David succumbed after a brief battle with metastasized skin cancer, thankfully with little pain and enough time to say goodbye. We’re thankful for the doctors, nurses and staff at St. Elizabeth’s (Edgewood Hospital and Hospice Center) and M.D. Anderson in Houston, TX. David is survived by his wife, Sandra; his children, David “Eric” (Tonia), Chris (Lee), and Cathlynn Carman (James); his sister, Mary Bennett (Bob); two nieces, Melissa and Nicole Barnes; and ten grand-children: Jordan, David “Zachary”, Sarah, Brennan, Joseph, Katie, Daniel, John, Reagan, and Madelynn. We will celebrate David’s life in a funeral service at 10:00 am on Thursday, November 5th at Florence Baptist Church at Mt. Zion (642 Mt. Zion Rd. in Florence). Visitation will be 4:30-7:30 pm on Wednesday, November 4th at Linnemann Funeral Home (30 Commonwealth Ave. in Erlanger). Burial will be at 2:00 pm on Thursday, November 5th at Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville, KY. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in his name to Wounded Warrior Project 4899 Belfort Road Suite 300 Jacksonville FL, 32256.
