Charlotte Decker
Charlotte Jane Bilz Decker, 62, passed away under hospice care on May 23, 2012. Born in Covington, she grew up in Erlanger, and graduated from Notre Dame Academy in 1967. She earned a degree in English from Bellarmine-Ursuline College (now Bellarmine University) in Louisville in 1971 and earned a Masters of Library Science from the University of Kentucky in 1972. She was the librarian and Academic Challenge coach at Covington Latin School for almost 20 years, and then served as a children’s librarian at the Public Library of Cincinnati and Hamilton County until retirement in 2010. Charlotte was a parishioner and lector at St. Benedict Church, and was also active in several professional organizations to promote the enjoyment of reading, especially among young people. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Frieda Bilz. She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Ronald Decker of Covington, and by three siblings: John (Rachelle) Bilz of Oberlin, OH; Jill (Philip) Heink of Lexington, KY; and Jim (Kathy) Bilz of Edgewood. She is also survived by a nephew and seven nieces. Visitation will be Monday, May 28, from 4 to 7 PM at Linnemann Funeral Home in Erlanger. Funeral Mass will be 10 AM, Tuesday, May 29, at St. Benedict Church, Covington. Memorials may be made to Holy Family School Library, c/o St. Benedict Church, 338 E 17th St., Covington, KY 41014.
