Carl “Butch” Vest, a devoted family man and US Naval veteran, passed away peacefully at his home on July 12, 2024. He served his country with honor for 27 years, achieving the rank of MMCM. He spent 28 years as Branch Manager for Cantwell Machinery. Butch was known for his selflessness, unwavering loyalty, and his love for crossword puzzles, golf and UK basketball. He cherished making chili dinners for his family and sipping a rum and coke on the back deck. But he may be best remembered for his banana nut bread and jerky that everyone looked forward to during holidays. He loved baking with his granddaughters and looked forward to yard work with his grandsons. His family will miss him and the many memorable vacations he took them on.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years and soulmate of 61 years, Kathy Vest; his daughter, Melissa Vest; his son, David (Amy) Vest; and his grandchildren, Gracie, Trent, Isaac Vest, and Kaylee Colwell.

Butch was preceded in death by his parents, John and Nannie Vest, and his siblings: Mabel Francis Rex, Herman Vest, Lois Ann Taylor, and William Vest.

A private graveside service will be held at Kentucky Veteran Cemetery North. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Elizabeth Hospice or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Butch’s memory. Online condolences can be left at https://www.linnemannfuneralhomes.com/
