Bertha “Bert” Neltner

Obituary
Condolences

Bertha “Bert” Neltner (née Brue), born April 15, 1949, passed away peacefully on January 2, 2026.

Bertha was the beloved daughter of the late Anthony Brue and Helen (née Bramlage). She was preceded in death by her parents and her cherished grandson, William Joseph Fay. She is lovingly survived by her children, Jonathan Neltner (Melinda) and Jennifer Fay (Joey); her siblings, Mary Ann Halpin and James Anthony Brue; and her treasured grandchildren, Anna, Taylor, Emily, Samuel, and Benjamin. Bertha was truly called to be a helper. In her fifties, she answered that calling by returning to school to earn her nursing degree, becoming a registered nurse. She proudly served her patients with compassion and dedication throughout her career at St. Elizabeth, retiring in 2019. Her care for others extended far beyond her profession—it was simply who she was. A classy lady in every sense, Bertha had a love for beautiful flowers and an even greater love for her family. Family meant everything to her, and she took great joy in being present for those she loved. Her kindness, grace, and steady presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

To reflect her love of flowers and kindness to others, please consider planting a flower in her memory or giving flowers to someone in need of a smile…

Sorry for your loss

I lived down the street from Bert for many years and was so sad to hear of her passing. She was very friendly, and I always admired her green thumb with all her beautiful flowers. I will miss her on our summer street cookouts & chatting with her as I walked by with my dog who loved her too! Having lost my mother recently, I know what you are feeling. I’m so sorry. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.

Our sympathies for you

Jennifer, I am so sorry to hear about your Mom’s passing. Ron and I have run into her several times in the past. I admired her return to school and getting her nursing degree. It’s not an easy thing to do. I don’t know if I ever told you this but your Mom did the flowers for our wedding in October 1974!
Prayers for you and your family,
Ron and Kathy Powell

Former Neighbor

Hello, Mary Ann and Jim. We lived across the street from the Bruce family for 20 plus years. Also, I sang in Blessed Sacrament Church choir with her for several years. Also, our two sons cut the grass at their home for many years. She was so pleasant and kind. Sending our sympathy and prayers.

To Mary Ann and Bert’s children

I was so sorry to hear of Bert’s passing. I was a high school classmate of Bert’s at Villa Madonna . I was so glad to reconnect with her at our class lunches. She impressed me so much with the nursing degree she earned much later in life. She always had a smile on her face and was so upbeat even while dealing with many health issues. She will be missed!

Beautiful Bert

Bert and I have shared many wonderful memories through the years. Shared tears and cheers!! She had a beautiful spirit and a loving soul❤️May the Angels guide her on her way to Paradise.

Missing Bert.

We are going to miss your mom’s presence at Silver Lake. Enjoyed every conversation I ever had with Bert. She was very caring, helpful and kind.

With deepest sympathy

Dear Mary Ann and James,
I am so very sorry to hear that Bert has died. We both went to Blessed Sacrament for grade school and Villa Madonna Academy for high school. I used to see Bert at the various VMA Class of ’67 lunches at the Greyhound. She was always so much fun. We loved to talk about “the old days” together. The last time I saw her at lunch, it was clear that her health was not good; but still she was fun to talk with and she was wearing her “fancy” denim cap with all the gems! She had such a wonderful, strong spirit; so kind and friendly; so likeable. I will keep Bert and all of your family in my prayers.
With deepest sympathy, Mary Margaret (Heile) Cole
