Ben Sheldon Mellott passed away at Providence Pavilion Covington, KY on October 30, 2015 at the age of 94. He was born in Lock Haven, PA to parents of Rev. Matthew Stanley Quay Mellott and Ethel Kethler. Ben was a World War II veteran having served in the Army Air Core in Europe with duties of Company and Payroll Clerk, Sergeant of the Guard and Charge of Quarter. He was a graduate of Union College Barbourville, KY with a degree in Math. He taught school in Hollywood, Fl Public Schools for one year. He was employed by the US Postal Service for thirty years. Ben was a member of the Erlanger United Methodist Church where he was active as a Trustee, United Methodist Men and a liaison between the church and contractor for the major building projects of the church and parsonage. He volunteered at the United Methodist Church Ida Spence Project (City Heights) in Covington, KY. He was Lloyd Memorial Band Booster President for two years. In 1982, Ben was instrumental in consolidating the church pantries in Erlanger and Elsmere to the United Ministries. His wife and he chaired the United Ministries Government Commodity Program for ten years. In 1994, he chaired the building program for United Ministries now located on Watson Road Erlanger. Later, Ben and wife Gerry were founding members of United Christian Volunteers. He was preceded in death by Geraldine “Gerry” Mellott his wife of sixty nine years. He is survived by daughter Susan Stodghill (Herb) Florence, KY, grandson Dustan Stodghill (Angela) Nolensville, TN, great granddaughter Ainsley Stodghill Nolensville, TN, sister Mary Pearson (Rev. Robert) Keizer, OR, nieces Ruth Whitehouse (Mike) Louisville, KY and Debbie Cox (Steve) Keizer, OR, nephews David Pearson (Kris) Hillsboro, OR and Dana Pearson (Marrisa) Anchorage, AK. Visitation will be on Tuesday November 3, 2015 from 11AM-1PM at Erlanger United Methodist. A service will follow the visitation at 1PM at the church. Burial at Forest Lawn. You may honor Ben through a memorial donations to United Christian Volunteers, United Ministries, Erlanger United Methodist Church, or The United Methodist Church Children’s Home Versailles, KY.
