Allen Eugene Barker

Obituary
Condolences

Allen Barker, 88, of Florence, KY, formerly of Erlanger, KY, passed away peacefully on July 6, 2025, at Legacy Living Florence.

Born in Logan County, West Virginia, on July 15, 1936, Allen led a life defined by resilience, resourcefulness, and a deep love for his family. He faced early life challenges with quiet determination—joining the Marine Corps at an early age, where he served for two years and developed the self-reliance and work ethic that would guide him throughout his life.

In 1964, Allen met the love of his life, Peggy Eilers, at a gas station in Covington, KY. They were married on February 7, 1966, and shared 59 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised four children: Joe (Lisa) Barker, Vickie (Bill) Behan, Shannon (Ron) Supe, and Mary (Mike Krebs) Barker.

Allen was a devoted husband, proud father, beloved grandfather to Tyler, Alexandra, Garrett, Reece, Dominick, Madeline, Hannah, Abbie, Anna, Mikey, and Mason, and a cherished great-grandfather to Eliana, Oliver, and Westin.

He was preceded in death by his father, Mason Barker Sr.; brother, Lawrence “Larry” Barker; paternal grandmother, Matilda Barr; aunt, Margaret Adkins; sister-in-law, Mary Lou Eilers; and his in-laws, Lucille “Ceil” and Joseph Eilers.

Allen worked for many years as a Field Engineer and retired from Liquid Air. He had a passion for working with his hands—whether it was woodworking, building furniture, fixing anything that needed repair, or solving crossword puzzles. He was a natural problem-solver and a self-taught craftsman. Even later in life, his thirst for knowledge endured, as he earned his GED at the age of 74—a testament to his perseverance and commitment to self-improvement.

He was also a dedicated volunteer, having served with the Crescent Springs and Elsmere Auxiliary Police Departments. He found great pride in his involvement with the Erlanger Lions Club, where he served as Past President (2006–2007) and Membership Chair (2004–2005). In recognition of his service to the community, he was named an Honorary Kentucky Colonel.

Allen was blessed with many good friends, including long-time neighbors, people he met through work and volunteerism, and friends and caregivers at Legacy. Allen will be remembered for his quiet strength, quick wit, love of billiards and card games, and unwavering devotion to his family. Though he battled Alzheimer’s in his final years, his love and spirit never waned.

Allen was affectionately known by several nicknames to those who loved him, and this is how they would say goodbye: I love you, AB; Well done, Ace; See you, Pop; Hugs and kisses, Crampaw; Miss you, Meatball.

Memorial Service will be held at Legacy Living Florence at 2pm on Thursday, July 10, 2025.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to BAWAC, 7970 Kentucky Drive, Florence, KY 41042.
