Harry J. Boone

Harry Jones Boone, of Walton, KY, died on Friday, February 17, 2017. Harry was born on May 16, 1947 in Creechs, a coal-mining town in Harlan, KY.   He was 69. His family moved from Harlan KY when he was young, Harry and his brother David Boone and William Howard attended Holmes High School.  He excelled in sports and was a Northern KY Athletic All-Star for four years under Coach Ellis.  Harry graduated in 1966.  He married Mary Ann Nie in 1970, and they had one child Sherri Lynn Boone-Moore.  Harry and Mary Ann raised their family in Walton KY as Harry worked as a machinist for Cincinnati Milacron, he continued to work in this field and later became a journeyman machinist before he retired. He enjoyed his retirement spending time hunting, fishing and camping with his family.

As a history buff, he spent time researching his ancestry and confirmed that Daniel Boone, the great explorer and adventurer, was his 5x great uncle.  Once this was discovered Harry and his brother David spent years tracing the family lines back to Norse raiders, the first duke of Normandy, the Battle of Hastings with William the Conquerer and also the signing of the Magna Carta.

A unique soul. Harry was a loving grandfathered and spent much of his later years storytelling and passing his love of nature to his grandchildren. Harry was funny, magnetic and was someone that you wouldn’t forget.  His wisdom and guidance will be greatly missed by his daughter and grandchildren. Harry is survived by wife Mary Ann Boone, his daughter Sherri Lynn Boone-Moore, son-in-law John Moore and three grandchildren Molly, Ella and Jonathan Moore.  He is also survived by his two brothers David Boone and William Howard.

A memorial service will be held at Linnemann Funeral Home and Event Center, Burlington KY on Friday March 3^rd at 2pm. A Celebration of Harry’s Life will follow immediately after the service with the family receiving relatives and friends until 6pm.  Memorial donations may be made in Harry’s name to the American Heart Association.
