Richard Yelton
Richard O. Yelton, 59, passed away on Saturday, May 21st . Richie was active in the high school plays at Red Bank Catholic High School in Red Bank, NJ. He starred in Guys and Dolls, Finnian’s Rainbow, and Annie Get Your Gun. Following high school he attended St. Mary’s Seminary School in Kentucky, then the University of Dayton, OH where he obtained his BS in Chemistry, followed by post graduate work in chemistry at Wright State University. Richie was a loving and devoted father and husband and enjoyed spending time with his family most of all. Richie had an incredible sense of humor and enjoyed boating, motorcycle riding, playing drums, mechanics, electronics, and computers. He was a member of St. Barbara Church in Erlanger where he also was a member of the Holy Name Society.
He held positions at: Charles F. Kettering Research Laboratory in Yellow Springs, OH, Aerospace Research Laboratory at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Fairborn, OH, Wright State University in Dayton, OH, Monsanto Research Corporation in Dayton, OH, Finnigan Mat Institute in Blue Ash, OH, Vestec, Inc. in Houston, TX, and Teledyne Scientific Instruments in Mountain View, CA. In 1990 he started his own business, Spectratek Mass Spectrometry Services, Inc. in Erlanger. He trained, developed methods and repaired analytical laboratory instrumentation and has authored or co-authored 31 scientific papers utilizing various MS techniques for analysis. Richard also worked on numerous government projects with the FBI, EPA, Wright State University and NASA. He was a member of the American Chemical Society, the American Society for Mass Spectrometry, Vice-Chairman of Technical Community of Monsanto, Mound Analytical Chapter in 1984, and Chairman in 1985.
Mr. Richard Yelton was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Yelton. He is survived by his wife, Marian (Thomson) Yelton of Erlanger, his children, Erin Yelton Broadhurst (James) of Columbus, OH, Carli Yelton Caldwell (Chase) of Clearwater, FL, Jamie Yelton of Centerville, OH and their mother Candy Yelton of Cincinnati, OH, Nicole Beletsis of Erlanger, and Dylan Yelton of Erlanger. He is also survived by his mother, Lee (Ruscil) Yelton of West Long Branch, NJ, his brother Randy Yelton (Nancy) of West Long Branch, NJ, his two grandchildren, Andrew and Michael Broadhurst of Columbus, OH, his nephews, Ryan and Richie Yelton of West Long Branch, NJ, Matthew and Andrew Fehl of Old Bridge, NJ and his niece Jeanine Fehl, also of Old Bridge, NJ.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 25th, from 5:00-8:00 PM at Linnemann Funeral Home in Erlanger. Mass of Christian burial will follow on Thursday, May 26th at 10:00 AM at St. Barbara Church in Erlanger. There will also be a memorial service held in New Jersey at the convenience of the family.
