Rev. John Huenniger

Rev. John A. Huenniger, 76, of Burlington, KY, passed away Sunday July 21, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Edgewood, KY. John was a retired Lutheran Pastor with the Upstate New York Synod of the E.L.C.A. During his 30 years of service, John served as the assistant pastor at Covenant Lutheran Church in Ridgewood, Queens, NY, and as pastor of: Immanuel Lutheran Church, Troy, NY, and St. John’s Lutheran Church, Melrose, NY; Bethany Lutheran Church, Niagara Falls, NY; and St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Albany, NY. An area of ministry he especially enjoyed was Lutheran youth education and retreats. In retirement, John enjoyed leadership roles with various church committees as a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, and upon request, led worship and preached at several Northern KY/Cincinnati congregations. He had a passion for singing, gardening and nature. John is survived by his wife of 52 years Virginia A. Huenniger (nee Sommer) of Burlington, KY¸ children Jeffrey Huenniger (Sheri) of Lawrenceville, GA, Valerie A. Huenniger (Jeri) of Las Vegas, NV, and Jim A. Huenniger (Shane) of Cincinnati, OH, and grandchildren Alyssa Huenniger, Andrew Huenniger, Madison Clark, Jon Woodruff and Maxwell Woodruff. A visitation will be held on Friday August 2, 2013, 3pm until 5pm at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Crestview Hills, KY. A 5pm funeral service will immediately follow the visitation at the church. A reception will take place at Gloria Dei following the service.
