Tributes
John Phillip Del Barba, 91, of Ryland Heights, Kentucky, formerly of Maryland, passed away peacefully on June 29, 2026, at St. Elizabeth Hospice, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on September 22, 1934, John was the son of Albert and Sarah Del Barba and was raised on the South Side of Chicago by his proud Italian family. He carried the values of faith, hard work, and kindness with him throughout his life. A lifelong Roman Catholic, his faith remained a steady guide in both his personal life and career.
John was the devoted husband of Connie Carlson Del Barba, the love of his life. Together they shared many happy years until Connie’s passing in December 2021. Their love and commitment to one another remained an inspiration to their family.
After graduating from Bradley University, John proudly served stateside in the United States Army as a Chaplain’s Assistant during the Vietnam War. He went on to enjoy a successful career in architectural sales before finishing his working years with Campbellsville Industries, helping churches with steeple projects well into his 80’s.
John believed in staying active. As a young man, he was one of the top high school runners in the city of Chicago and later developed a love for tennis, helping to coach for a high school team and playing well into his late 80’s. He was also a lifelong Chicago Cubs and Bears fan who rarely missed the chance to cheer on his favorite teams.
More than anything, John loved his family. He was a devoted father, proud grandfather, and delighted great-grandfather. He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, quiet strength, unwavering faith, and the love he shared so freely with those around him.
John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Connie Del Barba; his parents, Albert and Sarah Del Barba; his brother, who passed away at birth; and his brother-in-law, Ray Derdzinski.
He is survived by his sons, Brad (Kim) Del Barba and Brian (Maura) Del Barba; his sister, Gloria Derdzinski; his grandchildren, Brittany, Brooklyn, Patrick, Elizabeth, and Charlotte; his great-grandson, Beau; and many extended family members and friends.
Services will be held at the convenience of the family. John will be laid to rest at St. Rose of Lima Parish in Gaithersburg, Maryland.
