Tributes
William John Ament Jr., age 89, of Dayton, Kentucky, passed away on April 18, 2026. He was born on June 18, 1936, in Dayton, Kentucky, to the late William Ament Sr. and Virginia (née Bramble).
Bill was preceded in death by his brother, Steven Ament, and his granddaughter, Jackie Roland.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 56 years, Evelyn Ament (née Cooley); his children, Sean Ament (Lori), Erik Ament, Deborah Fitzsimmons, and Karen Morwessel; his siblings, Andy Ament, Jenny Herman, and Carol Ray Paden; as well as three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, all of whom will carry forward his memory.
Bill spent 30 years working as a truck driver, a job that suited his independent spirit and love of the open road. That same spirit carried into his personal life—he enjoyed traveling, especially out West and down South, and was always happy to get in the car and simply see where the road might lead.
He had a deep appreciation for working with his hands. Whether it was tools, woodworking, or fixing something that needed attention, Bill was most at home when he was building, tinkering, or doing things his own way. And he usually did—he was direct, practical, and never one to overcomplicate things.
Bill had a dry sense of humor that those closest to him knew well, and an outgoing nature that made it easy for him to connect with others. He never met a stranger and genuinely enjoyed talking with people wherever he went.
More than anything, Bill will be remembered for his straightforward way of life, his curiosity about the world, and the many conversations, stories, and miles shared along the way.
