Tributes
Thomas “Tom” Hopkins, 64, of Union, Kentucky, passed away on Monday, February 23, 2026, at St. Elizabeth Healthcare in Florence, Kentucky.
Tom was the proud owner of Richwood Automotive and recently retired from Perfetti Van Melle. As if two day jobs weren’t enough, he usually had two or three home or camp repair projects going.
Tom enjoyed golf almost as much as he loved golf trips with the guys. He liked wood—cutting it, building fires with it, and building things with it, but never, ever, ever painting it. His favorite place in the world was behind the wheel of his boat, listening to the Talking Heads Stop Making Sense (because it was stuck in the CD player)—though he spent almost as much time with his head in the engine compartment. He spent many weekends creating memories at Camp Turnabout, where one pastime was chasing the never-ending leak in the camper.
Football season was his favorite time of year, and Tom began every season with hope for his beloved Bengals. If only they’d listened to him, they’d have won several Superbowls by now. A born and bred West Sider, Tom attended St. Teresa of Avila in Price Hill and Elder High School. He was a member of the AEPi fraternity at Miami University where he met the love of his life and future mother of his children. He was a member of the Kolping Society of Cincinnati and participated in many post-retirement Tuesdays working on the facility with all the other old guys.
Above all, Tom treasured time spent with his family and friends. He loved his kids more than anything, even his boat. His honorary grandkids, Aiden and Gabriel, brought him great joy. Main dog Homer and Grand dogs Harper, Huey and Captain will miss him greatly. He touched many lives and will be a part of “remember when…” stories for a long time to come.
He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Anna and Fredrick Wagner and paternal grandparents, Virginia and Walker Hopkins.
Tom is survived by his loving wife of almost 35 years, Tracy Mort Hopkins; children: Daniel, Sam and Karen Hopkins; parents John and Mary Wagner Hopkins; siblings: John (Susie) Hopkins, Mark (Nancy) Hopkins and Nancy Hopkins; many nieces (and great nieces!) and nephews (and great nephews!).
A memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, March 1, 2026, from 1:00 PM until the time of Catholic Blessing, 3:00 PM at Linnemann Funeral Home, 1940 Burlington Pike, Burlington, KY 41005. He will be laid to rest in St. John’s Cemetery in Ft. Mitchell on Monday, March 2, at 10 a.m.
