Tributes
Janet “Jan” Marie Radle ,(nee Hyland) 72, of Union, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2026, at her home, surrounded by the family she so dearly loved.
Born on March 15, 1953, Jan lived a life defined by service, creativity, faith, and unwavering devotion to her people. She and her beloved husband, David, were truly a whirlwind romance meeting, becoming engaged, and marrying all in 1976. Together, they built a home filled with love, laughter, and constant activity, sharing nearly 49 years of marriage and countless memories.
Jan’s heart belonged to children. She graduated from Western Hills High School in 1971. She then trained as an educator, earning her bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Xavier University in 1975, later completing her master’s degree and Rank 1 through Northern Kentucky University. Though she worked as a substitute teacher throughout Kenton County and Newport/Southgate schools, Jan’s most cherished role was that of a mother and homemaker. A role she fulfilled with extraordinary care and intention.
To her children, Jan was everything. She baked every birthday cake, stocked the shelves with homemade applesauce for the year, and filled her home with the smells of banana bread and home-cooked meals. A gifted seamstress, she made her own wedding dress, she lovingly made Mandy’s dresses and school clothes, crafted baby blankets, made other wedding gowns, and transformed cherished garments into quilts that preserved family memories. JoAnn Fabrics and Hancock Fabrics were among her favorite places, and she took great joy in teaching Mandy how to sew.
Jan welcomed Mandy into the family in 1979, followed by Brian in 1981, and William “Jeff” in 1983. If there was something happening in her children’s lives, marching band events, school activities, church programs, or YMCA outings, Jan was there, fully present and enthusiastically involved. Family was always her highest priority.
An outgoing, strong-willed, and deeply kind woman, Jan shared her talents freely with others. She played the piano, painted ceramics and ornaments, gardened diligently, and taught her children to care for flowers and the earth. She and David loved camping and traveling together, especially on memorable trips out West. Hotels were foreign to the Radle family, as adventure was always found outdoors. Spring Break trips to Alligator, Florida, and peaceful time spent at Lakeside with her siblings and parents became treasured traditions.
Jan’s faith guided her life. A lifetime member of Westwood United Methodist Church, she devoted countless hours to church service and community outreach. She served as Director of Children’s Ministry and volunteered wherever she was needed. Alongside David, she shared a love of scouting—Jan as a Girl Scout leader and David as a Boy Scout leader—instilling values of leadership, service, and appreciation for the outdoors in countless young lives.
Jan was the seventh of ten children, carrying with her a deep appreciation for family bonds and shared history. She loved her people fiercely and showed that love through action, generosity, and presence.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and E. Marie Hyland; and her siblings, infant, John Richard Tom Hyland, Mary Beth Greulich, and Carol Jean Hyland.
Jan is survived by her devoted husband, David Radle; her daughter, Mandy (Bill) Jamison; and her sons, Brian (Ali) Radle and Wm. Jeffrey Radle; her cherished grandchildren, Ethan, Clara, Jaynie, Victoria, Bailey, Hannah, and Carter; and her siblings, Chuck (Anne) Hyland, Bob (Marilyn) Hyland, Ken Hyland, Nancy Stenger, and Ruth Ann Henderson.
A memorial visitation will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026, from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service at 11:30 a.m. at Westwood United Methodist Church, 3460 Epworth Avenue, Cincinnati, Ohio 45211. A reception will follow at a location to be announced.
