Michael John Hastings
April 14, 1952 – October 19, 2025
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Michael John Hastings of Hebron, KY, who left us peacefully on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at his home. Born Michael Brecht to Polly Hutchinson and John Brecht, Mike was lovingly raised by his mother, Polly Hutchinson Hastings, and the man he proudly called “Dad,” Russel Hastings. A lifelong resident of Northern Kentucky, Mike’s roots in the area ran deep — both in the community and in the hearts of those who knew him.
A proud graduate of Dixie Heights High School (1970) and Northern Kentucky University, Mike’s educational journey also took him to the University of Kentucky, where he became a proud member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. But more than his academic achievements, it was the relationships he built along the way — with friends, colleagues, and loved ones — that would come to define his extraordinary life.
Mike’s greatest love was his wife, Paula Teaster Hastings, with whom he shared 49 years of marriage. Together, they built a life full of adventure, laughter, and love. He was a devoted father to his three children along with their spouses: Jason Hastings (47) and his wife Leah, Katherine Chandler (43) and her husband Adam and Ryan Hastings (38).
His legacy also lives on through his four beloved grandchildren, Madeline (12), Anna (11), Reese (8), and Aiden (8) — all of whom brought him immeasurable joy and laughter.
Mike’s professional career spanned over four decades, with 25 years as a partner at Jobe and Company, working alongside his dear friend, Craig Jobe. He was well respected in the home building industry, where his work ethic and integrity were legendary. But Mike was much more than just a colleague — he was a friend, a mentor, and a source of wisdom to many.
In his personal life, Mike enjoyed a variety of passions, from traveling and golfing to engaging in spirited political discussions. His love for UK basketball was well known, and he never missed a chance to watch a game, often accompanied by his lifelong friends and their wonderful wives, including Jim Courtney, Charlie Dickey, Pat Sowers, Craig Jobe, Tom Miller, and others who were like family to him.
Mike also shared countless adventures — and more than a few tall tales — with some of his closest friends, including the late great David Henderson and the legendary Charlie Fugazzi.
He leaves behind his siblings: Elizabeth “Bunny” Phillips, Prudence Miller, Susan Anderson, Donna Adams, and Mark Hastings, as well as 26 nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
Mike was a man who had a zest for life, an unwavering optimism, and a sense of humor that could light up any room. He was a gentleman, always willing to lend a hand or offer advice to those who needed it. His legacy will live on in the love and laughter he shared, the friendships he cultivated, and the family he cherished.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mike’s honor to; St .Jude Children’s Hospital or Tunnels To Towers.
A visitation for Mike will be held on Sunday, October 26 from 12:00pm until the time of service at 2:00pm at Linnemann Funeral Homes (1940 Burlington Pike Burlington, Kentucky). Service will be lead by Michael Stoops of Hebron Lutheran Church. Following his service, there will be a reception held until 5:00pm at Linnemann Funeral Homes.
