Rose Mary Meyer

Obituary
Condolences

Rose Mary Meyer, 71, of Union, KY, passed away unexpectedly at her home on October 12, 2025.

Born on September 8, 1954, in Fort Thomas, KY, Rose was the daughter of the late Bob and Bette Heckel. A proud graduate of St. Thomas High School, Class of 1972, she went on to earn her associate degree in radiologic technology from Central Baptist College. Rose retired as a Clinical Manager from TriHealth Orthopedic Spine Institute after a successful and respected career in healthcare.

Rose was the life of the party—fun-loving, witty, and forever young at heart. Known as the “party sister,” she could close down a bar in Covington with a laugh and a story to tell. She loved antiquing trips to Berlin, Ohio, often going twice a year, and had a deep appreciation for history and artifacts from the 1800s.

She enjoyed traveling with her longtime partner, Dwight Dessart, especially to Las Vegas, and was a passionate fan of the University of Kentucky Wildcats and the Cincinnati Bengals—never missing a chance to tailgate before a big game.

Rose cherished reading and often shared books with her sisters Patti and Jeanne. Christmas held a special place in her heart—she loved listening to Christmas music, a joy that began with her mom and continued throughout her life.

As the middle child, Rose brought laughter and levity to every family gathering. She was the “fun aunt” who made every visit memorable, whether she was traveling to Telluride, New Orleans, or Lake Tahoe to visit her niece Kristin, or simply enjoying quiet days at home in later years.

She was also a devoted dog lover—whether it was her own Cinnamon (aka “Shorty”) or any dog she met on a walk, Rose had a heart for every four-legged friend.

Rose is survived by her loving partner of 24 years, Dwight Dessart; her siblings Patti (Jim) Doller, Jeanne Wehrle, Nancy Heckel-Haas, and Bob Heckel; and numerous nieces and nephews who adored their “Aunt Rose.” She was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Bette Heckel, and brothers-in-law, Doug Wehrle and Fritz Haas.

Private services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.

Dwight: I’m so sorry to hear of Rose passing away. I remember when you and her would come into the store. Your friend— Tom Schuler

Rest in peace Rose

The world doesn’t seem as bright today as it was. You carried so much life inside you as shared it with everyone. Rest in peace my friend and watch over us and especially Dwight.

Condolences

I’ll miss you 😢

Will forever miss my big sister

Always there for me when I needed her, always able to talk me into things I didn’t want to do, always making me laugh. As an adolescent I sobbed in the bathroom at your wedding reception because you were moving away. Now I am sobbing because you have gone away again. Praying we meet again. I love you, Rose!

Love always,

Nancy (NANSTY)

Rose in our Hearts

Rose was such a light in every room she visited. She was a loving partner for Dwight. Rose will be missed dearly, so much, that words can hardly express.

Forever in our jearts

Rose will always be the cousin we all loved to be around. She will be in hearts forever and we will keep her alive through all the great memories

With deepest sympathy, love and prayers,
Mary Jo Menning
