We share with deep sorrow the passing of Gracia Irene Childers, who died on June 11, 2025, at the age of 84. Born on March 30, 1941, to the late Carl Gaylord Latherow and Gertrude Ellen Lloyd Niedrich, Gracia lived a rich and wholehearted life centered on family, tradition, and the simple joys that made every day meaningful.

She was the devoted wife of Samuel T. Childers for 63 years—a partnership rooted in mutual respect, laughter, and lifelong friendship. Together, they raised two sons, Carl Lee Childers (Susette) and Craig Thomas Childers, who brought her immense pride and purpose. Her happiest moments were spent with her family all together, especially during the holidays, when her home was filled with the smell of her cooking, the sound of stories shared, and the comfort of being near the ones she held dearest.

Gracia was the heart of her family. She had a steady presence, a generous spirit, and a gift for lifting others up. Her smile could brighten even the hardest day, and her presence brought a sense of reassurance and care that will never be forgotten.

She cherished her time outdoors—watching birds at the feeders (always delighted by a visit from her favorite, the cardinal), tending to her garden, and camping in Michigan. For 20 years, she and Sam spent their winters in Florida, building lasting friendships and savoring the simple pleasure of life in the sunshine.

Gracia enjoyed cooking and baking, riding her bike, dancing, and cheering on the Cincinnati Reds. She made every holiday feel special and every gathering feel like home.

She will be remembered for her sincerity, her joy in life’s everyday moments, and her unwavering dedication to the people she loved most. Her memory will live on in every shared meal, every blooming flower, and every cardinal sighting.
