Tributes
Terry Sherlin, age 83, of Lakeside Park, passed away peacefully on April 26, 2025, at Rosedale Green. Born December 21, 1941, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, Terry lived a full and vibrant life marked by service, passion, and love for his family.
A proud Lieutenant Colonel in the Civil Air Patrol, Terry dedicated much of his life to service, leadership, and aviation. He was an avid pilot and owned his own airplane for many years, finding great joy in the freedom of flight. Professionally, Terry worked for Norfolk Southern Railroad, where he built a distinguished career over more than 40 years of service.
Terry was also a passionate HAM radio operator, spending countless hours communicating with people around the world, and he loved riding motorcycles whenever he could. However, his greatest pride and joy was always his family, whom he loved beyond measure.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to his home personal care givers for the last five years that enabled him to stay in his home, St. Elizabeth Hospice, and to Rosedale Green for the spiritual support and kindness shown during his final weeks.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Blanche Sherlin; his first wife, Sherry Sherlin (nee Tipton); second wife, Linda Sherlin (nee Powell).
Terry is survived by his beloved daughter, Lisa (Gary) Blank; his son, Terry (Terri) Sherlin; and his cherished grandchildren, Lauren (Michael) Slawter, Lindsay (Lance) Melching, Erica (Joe) Schrand, Kristin (Adam) Russell, Kara (Adam) Frakes; 12 great-grandkids; and three sisters, Susan Joan Bagby, Shirley Jean Carter, Margaret Jane O’Donnell; and many nieces and nephews.
From Terry’s daughter, Lisa:
“Dad left us last night and is Heaven walking the clouds with my mom.. Dad was 83 and was a world learner. I can say he knew a lot about a lot. It didn’t matter the subject, he always had something to say and had knowledge about it. His caregivers would say they were always learning something when with him. He was a Ham Radio Operator for over 30 years, a pilot, and had his own plane up until about 5 years ago. Dad was a Lieutenant Colonel in the Civi Air Patrol. His flying friends were like brothers and his biggest regret was having to give up his plan due to his disability. Dad was raised in Tennessee, but worked at Norfolk Southern Railway for over 40 years. His job brought us to NKY, a home we will forever be grateful for. He was the proud grandparent of five grand-daughters and twelve great-grandchildren. My family will forever be grateful to the loving care team that gave us the ability to keep him home in Lakeside Park these last five years. The Hospice Team at St. Elizabeth was fantastic. What can we say about Rosedale Green?…he was only there two weeks, but the care and spiritual comfort they gave Dad during these two short weeks we will forever grateful for. Fly high Dad! You are on your final flight but the best one! Thank you for raising my brother and I. We were so blessed to have you!”
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 12:00 PM at Floral Hills Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Elizabeth Hospice in Terry’s memory.
