Geraldine Boggs

Obituary
Condolences

Geraldine Vanover Boggs, born September 5, 1937, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2025, at the age of 87, surrounded by the love of her family. Born in Dunbar, Virginia, and raised in Benham, Kentucky, she eventually made her home in Villa Hills, Kentucky.

To those who knew her best, she was simply “Grandma”—a title she wore with pride and boundless affection. Geraldine was the heart of her family, a steady, loving presence whose warmth could be felt the moment you stepped through her door. Her home was a reflection of her spirit—cozy, welcoming, and always thoughtfully decorated for every season, especially her favorite, Christmas. Whether it was setting up her beloved mouse Christmas tree or one of her many nativity sets, she found joy in the little things and delighted in sharing that joy with others.

Her kitchen was the center of the home, always filled with the smell of something cooking and the sound of conversation. Geraldine had a way of bringing people together over a meal, not just for the food, but for the comfort of being around her table.

One of her favorite places was her front porch, where she’d sit for hours, always ready to strike up a conversation with anyone who walked by. Whether it was a neighbor, a passerby, or someone she was meeting for the first time, Geraldine had a way of making people feel seen and welcome. Her porch chats were a testament to her gift for connection and the kindness she so effortlessly shared.

Geraldine poured her heart into her family, especially her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were her pride and joy. She offered them a foundation—one built on unwavering support, patience, and the strength of a woman who led with love in all she did.

She is survived by her devoted daughter, Kim Scheper, and son-in-law, Jerre Scheper. She was a cherished grandmother to Alyson Ober and her husband, Patrick; Chadd Scheper and his wife, Danielle; Luke Scheper; and Emily Scheper and her partner, Walker Buelow. She also leaves behind her adored great-grandchildren: Hudson, Crew, Miles, and Eliza.

In addition, she is survived by her brother, Ronnie Vanover, and his wife, Patty; her sister, Carol Howard, and her husband, Bob; as well as nieces, nephews, and extended family members. Geraldine is now reunited in peace with her parents, Nannie and Virgil Vanover; her beloved husband, George Boggs; her cherished son, Lance Boggs; her dear grandson, Jason Scheper; and her faithful companion, Ge-Ge.

Geraldine’s memory will forever live in the hearts of all who were lucky enough to be loved by her, the comfort of her recipes, and the stories we continue to share.
