Shelby Joe Riggs, 75, passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 16, 2024, surrounded by his loving family at Legacy Living Florence. A dedicated family man, Shelby took immense pride in his role as a husband, father, and grandfather. He was the proud and devoted grandfather to seven grandchildren: Taylor, Colby, and Reagan Haines; Madeline and William Trumble; and Shelby and Annie Haines. Shelby was married to the love of his life, Sandra Riggs, for 42 beautiful years before she preceded him in death. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Shelby was a machinist with Signode for over 30 years and a member of the First Church of Christ in Burlington, KY. He was also a Kentucky Colonel, a recognition of his commitment to his community and the values he upheld. An avid outdoorsman, Shelby found joy in hunting, fishing, and tending to his garden, generously sharing the fruits of his labor with others. A skilled handyman with a passion for mechanics, he was often found working on cars, lawnmowers, or other projects that showcased his ingenuity and love for tinkering.

Shelby is survived by his daughters, Jenine (Matt) Haines, Carolyn (Jeremy) Trumble, and Julie (Joe) Haines; his sisters, Margie Hart and Laurie Alford; and his brothers, Lee and Vincent Sims. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Riggs, and his mother, Dencie Riggs (nee Terry).

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 22, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed by funeral services at Linnemann Funeral Homes, 1940 Burlington Pike, Burlington, KY. Entombment will take place at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Erlanger, KY. Shelby’s family invites you to share your condolences and memories online at www.linnemannfuneralhomes.com. His legacy of love, hard work, and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Shelby will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered as a man of faith, hard work, and unyielding devotion to his family and friends. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in Shelby’s honor.
