Diane Richardson

Obituary
Condolences

Diane Richardson, 83, of Union, Kentucky, passed away peacefully at St. Elizabeth Hospice in Edgewood on November 19, 2024. Known for her fiery spirit and quick wit, Diane was truly a dynamo in every sense. “Dynamite comes in small packages” was a fitting description of her, as she was small in stature but immense in personality. Her intelligence, sense of humor, and vivacious energy made her a beloved friend, neighbor, and family member.

Diane never met a stranger—whether it was the mailman, the garbage collector, or anyone she encountered, she made a friend. She had a special love for animals, particularly her cats and the many neighborhood cats that knew they could count on her for a warm home and a kind hand. Her passion for birdwatching filled her days, and she could often be found observing the natural world with a keen eye and a deep appreciation.

She enjoyed a rich and full social life, particularly with her close-knit circle of friends who shared in her love for competition. She relished the camaraderie of the “senior games” with her girlfriends and often took home first place.

Above all, Diane’s greatest love was for her family. She was a devoted mother to her seven children—Joe (Marianne) Richardson, Heather (Chris) Harger, Sean (Elizabeth) Richardson, David Richardson, Scott (Valerie) Richardson, Steven (Erica) Richardson, and James Richardson. She was proud of her 20 grandchildren and multiple great-grandchildren, who were a constant source of joy and pride in her life.

In addition to her children and grandchildren, Diane is survived by her nieces, Laura (Tipton) Ford, Patricia (Dennis) Kolb, and Cindy Woodley, along with multiple great-nieces and great-nephews, all of whom will miss her dearly.

Diane is preceded in death by her late husband, Joe Richardson, her brother, Wells Woodley III, her sister in law, Ann Woodley, and her nephew, Wells Adam Woodley.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Kentucky Humane Society https://www.kyhumane.org/donate/

Diane Richardson

,

Miss you my friend

Diane I had messaged you days before you passed thanking you for my annual make me smile Birthday card. We had lunch together in October. We solved all of the problems of the world laughed and every moment precious. 34 years of friendship and gone too soon. A keeper now in our hearts forever. Peace to all that surpasses understanding. Love Chris and Tim Mandy Bessey

Deepest sympathies

I was so sorry to hear of Diane’s death. She was a first cousin of mine, and although we had not seen one another in many years, we did keep in touch. Her sense of humor and quick wit remained undimmed! Deepest sympathies to all who mourn.

Forever in our heart

Diane was such a special lady. From the very first neighborly introduction to the day to day “fence talk”, she touched our hearts. In a few short years we came to realize how our wonderful neighbor was a beautiful gem that brightened our days. You were a true gift from God and will hold a special place in our hearts for a lifetime. As Diane once shared with us, sometimes the best walks in life are often too short. However the good times will be in our memories forever.
Thank you for being a great friend and wonderful neighbor.
Karma and Cherie

She will be sorely missed…….

I worked with Diane for years, even after she retired she kept her hand in the field. She was always smart, funny, kind and gracious. She was fast with a pun, and adored her cats, even when they drove her crazy. A great lady gone too soon. My deepest condolences to the family.

Christine

Miss Our Wonderful Friend

James, Heather and all the Richardson families,

What a shock to hear of Diane’s passing. She was such a “Super” friend to the two of us for over 35 years!!! We will miss her quick wit and wonderful smile.

We’ll miss our lunches with Diane and the Shupes since they all retired. I will also miss our “Girl lunches” and shopping at Dillard’s!

Our thoughts and prayers go out to you and your families during this difficult time. We are here if you need us. We are just a call away…
