Ruth Sacksteder Small
Ruth M. Small (nee Sacksteder), 90 of Erlanger, passed away on December 9, 2023. Ruth was born on May 19, 1933 in Newport, Kentucky to the late Harold and Margaret Sacksteder.
Ruth was a beloved wife of the late: Arthur W. Small, dear mother of Karen (Tom) Sandker, Connie (Jerry) Neiheisel, the late Jim Small and Cindy (Bo) Mihalovich, loving grandma of Greg (Mindee) Neiheisel, Patrick Sandker, Chris Sandker, Rebecca (Brandon) McHargue, Megan (Matthew) Hoke, Emily Mihalovich, great-grandma to Brooks McHargue, sister to LaVerne Duell, Margie Turner, Judy Hoffman, Dan Sacksteder and late Kenny Sacksteder.
Ruth was a member of St. Henry Catholic Church for 57 years and nothing made her happier than spending time with her family.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 14, 2023 from 9:00am to 11:00am at St. Henry Catholic Church (3813 Dixie Hwy, Elsmere, KY 41018). Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to St. Henry Church or have a mass said in her name at your home parish. The Greatest Neighbor(s)
My sister & I could not have asked for better next-door neighbors growing up than Ruth & Art. I used to time getting the newspaper & garbage can so that I would run into Art (after he got off work). You knew he was going to have something funny to say (in his dress clothes) & he made being a business man seem fun. He used to tie my ties for me when I had a basketball game & I continued to have him do it even after I learned to tie it myself… just for the interactions. He would often be watching a basketball game in his chair downstairs.
Ruth was one of the strongest people you would ever meet. I never saw her show emotion when Art or her son Jim passed even when you knew she was hurting. We looked forward to her rooftop Santa every Christmas & the year she lost Jim, a tear was added to Santa’s eye. Thru it all, Ruth would always greet you with a smile. Whenever I had to sell something for school, I would start at Ruth’s house. Any nervousness I had about selling something to people was tossed out the window after a conversation with her. She was so easy to talk to & I enjoyed chatting in her screened-in porch (the Smalls’ were the 1st people I knew to have a screened-in porch, ahead of their time… I will be getting a screened-in porch). When I moved to Atlanta in 2014 for work, I bought a box of Christmas cards to send to family… and Ruth. You will be missed!

My Aunt Ruth
My aunt Ruth was a favorite of mine. Love her and her family so much. She is part of my family that has a long and loving history. Will miss her and always remember our family get together and the closeness of all the brothers and sisters and their wonderful spouses. ❤️
