John E. Popham, 77, of Independence, entered eternal life on November 25, 2023. John was very passionate about his faith. He dearly loved attending St. Barbara Catholic Church in Erlanger, where he was a member for decades. He was also a regular participant in a weekly Bible study. He worked as a salesman for many years, retiring from Barnes Distribution. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing and working in his yard, which he took great pride in. He also enjoyed coaching all of his children in softball, baseball, basketball, and soccer. John served as President of the Beechgrove Boosters and never passed up an opportunity to attend a sporting event involving one of his children or grandchildren.

John always had a smile on his face and a joke to tell. He loved his sweets and treats and if you ever stopped by his house you were guaranteed to be offered as much ice cream as you wanted. He made friends and touched people’s lives wherever he went even after his illness took his voice.

John leaves behind his children: John Wayne (Julie) Popham, Julie Purnell, and Jodi (Chad) Crouch; grandchildren: Logan, Emily, Kamryn, Rachel, Jonah, Laurence, JD, Sophia, and Daniel; one great-grandson, Zaviar, on the way; siblings: Richard (Mary) Popham and Mary (Charlie) Conley; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 48 years, Lois Popham, his parents, James and Mary Popham and his brother, James Popham.

Visitation will be held on Friday, December 1, 2023 from 4 PM to 7 PM at Linnemann Funeral Homes, Erlanger. Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, December 2, 2023 at St. Barbara Catholic Church, Erlanger at 10 AM. John will be laid to rest at St. Mary’s Cemetery. John E. Popham

,

The best uncle a guy could ever have.

You will be missed by so many, especially me. A great man that always had a story to tell. Make sure you hang those Christmas lights straight in heaven my friend, I’ll sure miss you.

Sending our thoughts and prayers

I first met Mr Popham when his granddaughter Emily and my daughter Julia played sports together in grade school. Somehow, he sensed that I was a nurse, and we instantly became friends! He always was so nice and kind and had encouraging words for me! And he would always ask how I was and how my family was, even if he was not feeling good or going through a difficult time! Truly a selfless, loving man! I will miss him!! John, we feel very honored and truly blessed to have known your Dad! Please know how deeply sorry we are for your loss, but we know he is in God’s loving arms in paradise! May God bring all of you peace and comfort!
With our prayers, sympathy, and love,
Kristi and Don Goins

John was our neighborhood’s sweet “Grandpa.” Never grumpy, always happy and thoughtful no matter what he was going through. Loved by all. We will miss his smile and sweet nature greatly.
